So if I'm interpretting these recent posts correctly, there's been a new earth-directed CME that will hit us (later) in addition to the one that was expected to arrive today?
 Quoting: ANHEDONIC

Howdy, ANHEDONIC hi yes, there's been another CME launched, but it's too early to tell how much of it was earth-directed. I'm waiting for the SOHO C2 and C3 images to update so we can see how much of a halo we're looking at. Most likely a glancing blow, but a similar eruption in Oct. 2011 gave us aurora as far south as Arkansas from a 'glancing blow'. It should be fun to watch though.

Yeah, it is very fast and the filament liftoff occurred near Earths footprint.

Gotta wait on ISWA for the official word.

Well I had trouble tracking this one down again (it's been awhile). I had to scour half the freakin' internets but I found it. An oldie but goodie from NASA- it relates to that 60 degree west zone and it's fast connection to Earth.

New Kind of Solar Storm

(snip) Next, if the explosion is powerful enough, a billion-ton cloud of gas billows away from the blast site. This is the coronal mass ejection or "CME." CMEs are relatively slow. Even the fastest ones, traveling one to two thousand km/s, take a day or so to reach Earth. You know a CME has just arrived when you see auroras in the sky.
En route to Earth, CMEs plow through a lot of gaseous material, first in the sun's atmosphere and then out in interplanetary space. You thought space was empty? No. The void between planets is filled with protons and other particles from the solar wind. Shock waves in front of the CME can accelerate these protons in our direction--hence the proton storm.
"CMEs can account for most proton storms," says Lin, but not the proton storm of January 20th. According to theory, CMEs can't push material to Earth quickly enough.
Back to the drawing board: If a CME didn't accelerate the protons, what did?
"We have an important clue," says Lin. When the explosion occurred, sunspot 720 was located at a special place on the sun: 60o west longitude. This means "the sunspot was magnetically connected to Earth."
He explains: The sun's magnetic field spirals out into the solar system like water from a lawn sprinkler. (Why? The sun spins like a lawn sprinkler does.) The magnetic field emerging from solar longitude 60o W bends around and intersects Earth. Protons are guided by magnetic force fields so, on January 20th, there was a superhighway for protons leading all the way from sunspot 720 to our planet.

SOHO is updating finally. I don't see much on the C3 image to be concerned about, but we may see some of the IP shock and some fluctuations in the solar winds a few days hence. When they fill in all the delayed images we'll get a better look.

SOHO C3 image:

Did everyone see the story at Spaceweather.com? Comet PanSTARRS may be breaking up a little. I wonder what effect, if any, this incoming CME will have on it. Maybe we'll see some fireworks or Comet Doom, LOL.

EUVI Ahead is very interesting, esp. the North-West [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] just over our limb, the Filament.

That is just over the limb of our North-West,isn't it?

Regardless,it looks very cool on the EUVI.

Great find, Da Fuq! I found a violent little ejection from near Region 1691 (I think) at around 14:00z. Strangely, it left no trace on the x-ray flux. It's right near the Earth's magnetic footpoint, so it may add to our high proton levels.
