Lots of solar activity in recent hours. Huge CME from the 1719 flare (not too far from Earth-Sun magnetic footpoint).

Several recent filament liftoffs; the largest one in the southeast, another in the SW, another on the far SW limb, and several smaller ones I noticed on the SDO bronze filter movie.

The numbered active regions in the southern hemisphere all seem to be decaying and weakening now. The latest HMI Intensitygram shows 3 or 4 new regions popping up across the northern hemisphere.

NOAA Solar activity summary:

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity reached low levels with a long duration C6 flare from
Region 1719 (N09, L=074) off the northeast limb at 18/1823 UTC.
Associated with the event was a Type II radio sweep (1273 km/s) and a
CME off the west limb first observed in LASCO C2 imagery at 18/1836 UTC.
The CME is not expected to be geoeffective. Slight decay was observed
in Regions 1722 (S21W67) and 1723 (S18W26). The rest of the numbered
regions were relatively stable. Several filament eruptions were
observed during the period. The first filament eruption occurred in the
southeast quadrant centered near S13E50 beginning at 18/2052 UTC. Two
subsequent filament eruptions occurred in the southwest quadrant
centered near S22W26 at 18/1728 UTC and S15W25 at 19/0039 UTC,
respectively. A prominence eruption was observed off the southwest limb
beginning at 18/2052 UTC.
No Earth-directed CMEs were observed during
the period.

IRIS Solar Satellite Arrives at Vandenberg AFB for Launch - Apr 19, 2013
Workers unload NASA's IRIS spacecraft from a truck at the processing facility at Vandenberg where the spacecraft will be readied for launch aboard an Orbital Sciences Pegasus XL rocket. Photo credit: VAFB/Randy Beaudoin.
Scientists will soon gain a better view into energy and plasma movement near the surface of the sun, thanks to delivery of the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) spacecraft to Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. in preparation for launch.
Part of NASA's Small Explorer (SMEX) Mission, which delivers space exploration missions costing less than $120 million, IRIS was designed and built at Lockheed Martin's Space Systems Company Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Palo Alto, Calif. The program was developed with support from Lockheed Martin's Civil Space line of business as well as partners Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Montana State University, Stanford University and the University of Oslo. The launch of IRIS will not take place before May 28.

I am pretty sure that South-Eastern Region is currently a Sunspot(from the looks of all the arcading Plasmas)but on the farside, like you said it could well just become a Plage once it rounds the limb,we'll see if it blows itself out before then - if it pops off a large Flare it may well end up as just a Plage region, but at present it looks quite ferocious on your images ^^.

A new study suggests that stars near the Milky Way’s central black hole may well form planets. The researchers based their analysis on a very recent discovery of a gas cloud making its way toward the galactic center.

On December 14 an international team of astronomers led by Stefan Gillessen of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching, Germany, announced that they had spotted something heading toward a close encounter with the central black hole, known as Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), which has as much mass as four million suns. Gillessen and his colleagues interpreted the object to be a dusty gas cloud about three times as massive as Earth, possibly belched out as stellar winds (plasma streaming outward from stars) from the young stars that orbit the black hole.

==================================================

[link to www.scientificamerican.com]

That's when things could get interesting. A group of astronomers reports in a study published online December 14 in Nature that the black hole ought to rip the gas cloud apart and pull it inward, producing a detectable surge in x-ray emissions as the gas compresses and heats up. Depending on how the cloud breaks up, the black hole may feed on it for years to come, significantly brightening the faint glow that emanates from just outside the edge of the black hole, its event horizon, and providing astrophysicists a unique view of black hole digestion. (Scientific American is part of Nature Publishing Group.)

"Essentially, we have never seen before how any black hole in the universe is being fed," says study co-author Stefan Gillessen, an astronomer at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching, Germany. "Now we have the chance to watch something fall in." Gillessen and his colleagues identified the object and determined its trajectory using the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile.

"I wouldn't bet my house on their interpretation of what it is," Ghez says. "It's the difference between something extraordinary and something rather ordinary." Unlike most astronomical mysteries, this should actually be settled soon—with a roar or a whisper."

I had a monumental night this evening! My parents are fed up with the consistent MSM lies and story changes(they are visiting by the way). My mom wanted to know why the atmosphere is shrinking and thought I'd be able to help her out. AMAZING, and she wanted the entire scientific story, no kids rendition. My dad said shes got a friend at church whos very into 'science' and has been telling her about chemtrails and our shrinking atmosphere, I was blown away!
We spent an hour going through it all. The slowing geodynamo, methane, sun energy and its earth fueling, cows, ice melt, etc...She was very interested in all my saved SDO and lasco eruptions. It was like she opened her eyes for the first time. Shes a soil and plant specialist so she knows chemistry to a point, but shes becoming a huge Physics fan at 74 years of age, more power to her.
My father couldn't believe the information I had accumulated. We went through posts on this site and Gabes, he was enthralled ! Love all you suntards and fog freaks,LOL

NOAA's Latest Update....

Solar Activity

.24 hr Summary...
A spate of flux emergence resulted in three newly numbered regions over
the past 24 hours: Regions 1725 (N10W58, Cro-beta), 1726 (N13E07
Dro-beta) and 1727 (N26E57, Dao-beta). Of the three, Region 1726
appeared to be the most energetic in GOES/SXI imagery.
A filament
eruption occurred in the southwest quadrant centered near S15W25 at
19/0039 UTC. Analysis showed the subsequent coronal mass ejection to be
moving at approximately 400-450 km/s, although it appeared to be
directed primarily to the west. A WSA-Enlil model run is underway to
evaluate the potential geoeffectiveness.
