Big-time eruptions farside north near 1718. Two coronal dimming events visible a few hours apart can be seen on the STEREO Ahead EUVI Movie:

[link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

Two or three CMEs detected by the STEREO Behind cor 2:

[link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

I can see a solar tsunami or a coronal wave in the north on Behind EUVI imagery. This may be related to the same eruptions or possibly a separate filament event. Whatever it was, it was huge...almost the entire far-side north saw some effects from these happenings.

I still think that AR1726 looks like a fusion of two magnetic fields. Siamese twin sunspots groups now morphing into a larger structure. Early x-ray images from yesterday even showed a two-lobed x-ray configuration. Time will tell, but I believe this may lead to increased volatility in this region.

I agree look at that mingling, looks like that ss could have some energy getting all pent up, beautifull growth on that one.

on April 18, the 2 sunspots 1726 & 1727 were nonexistant, they began to form on April 19th and are now large complex sunspot groups today, April 20th. from nothing to this in 2 days

Sunspot 1726
62% chance for M flare
57% chance for X flare
[link to spaceweather.inf.brad.ac.uk]

How does flare monitor work?

Our agent program "SPIDER" connects to the SDO website every two minutes to search for the new HMI images and download them to our server.

These images are then processed using "ASAP" to automatically detect, group and then classify the sunspot groups and calculate their flaring probabilities.

Found this post over on [link to www.godlikeproductions.com] and wondering what y'all think? Highlighted wonderings?

BTW, there was a comet in 2004 called NEAT that was a Sun grazer and was visible during the day with filtering.

The only reason it wasn't visible to the naked eye during the day is because of it's proximity to the Sun , but it could be seen at Sunrise and Sunset with the naked eye.

The size of the nucleus of the comet was never determined to the best of my knowledge but it is easy to see from the LASCO image of it on the link posted below that it was no ordinary comet and it's coma's size was approximately that of the Sun. We can estimate it was the size of a small planet by extrapolation from it's coma and tail size.

It was HUGE, and as I recall NASA shit slinging shills like Astroll were downplaying it's significance at the time.

It caused massive coronal mass ejections as it approached the Sun and phenomenon never before observed, including what appeared to be an arc between it and the Sun and between Mercury and the Sun and Venus and the Sun. The brightness of Venus increased by several degrees of magnitude as it's atmosphere expanded. The electric universe was revealed in all it's glory by arcs or giant sparks between the Sun, the comet and the inner planets.

All of this was downplayed and ignored in the major astronomical publications as if it never happened.

As you probably know, things have not been the same with the Sun , the solar system or the Earth since that time.

I'm glad you liked it, whiteangel, I aim to please, LOL.

We may have an Earth-directed CME from a filament eruption in the SW near 1723 @ approx. 17:30z. I first noticed it on the Big Bear h-alpha movie:

[link to halpha.nso.edu]

On the SDO/AIA 304 image movie it looked much bigger than I realized. It's difficult to make out the CME on STEREO A ccor2 movie because of all the other
CMEs in the way; but I believe I see it there at the very end (beginning at approx. 19:30z):

Excellent connecting of good dots WA, and also thanks to Bloodytech with Astro's Lemmon response. Thanks again for that excellent info.

Re: SOLAR WATCH * 312 M & 25 X FLARES starting 3-7-2011 (Updated Daily)
NOAA Solar Activity update-

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity remained at low levels. Region 1726 (N13W05) continued
to grow in size and complexity over the past 24 hours, ending the period
as a Dai type group covering 180 millionths and containing a beta-gamma
magnetic configuration. Region 1726 produced several low level C-flares
during the period. One of these flares, a C1/Sf at 20/0802 UTC was
associated with an EUV dimming event adjacent to, and southeast of, the
region.
Another dimming event occurred earlier at at 20/0113 UTC in
conjunction with a B8 flare from Region 1723 (S19W44, Cao/beta). No
radio emissions were observed with either event and neither STEREO/COR2
nor SOHO/LASCO coronagraph imagery indicated any subsequent CMEs that
could be attributed to these events.

In contrast to the growth observed in Region 1726, Regions 1723 and 1725
(N10W70) exhibited signs of decay. Region 1727 (N25E44) exhibited
penumbral growth in the leader spot and separation between the leader
and follower. There was also evidence of a returning region on the
southeast limb.

Finally, two CMEs were observed off the west limb at 20/0624 and 20/0912
UTC but appeared to be associated with flares and dimming events from
old Region 1718 (N21, L=109) beyond the west limb and visible in
STEREO-A EUVI movie loops. These CMEs are not expected to be
geoeffective.

comment #1- I think they cheated 1726 on the size scale; it's gotta be more than 320 millionths IMO. And there definitely WAS a CME from the filament eruption near 1723, which I posted two movies of. They called it a "dimming event" "in conjunction with a B8 flare". WTF??

comment #2-I'm thinking maybe noaa IS reading this thread again. They rarely mention any "EUV dimming event"; but after I mentioned the two on the farside this morning, they "discuss" FOUR DIMMING EVENTS today.

comment #3- Maybe Boulder (NOAA HQ) was downwind of the Denver 420 Pot Festival today.....yeah, that might explain it.

Re: SOLAR WATCH * 312 M & 25 X FLARES starting 3-7-2011 (Updated Daily)
AR1726 is building up for a biggie IMO. This region is directly Earth-facing and just produced a C3.6 flare.
