I have been watching this one since April and it went out for a few days. Is there a place that has more information on how to reach these charts? Just looking at them makes one feel our magnetic field is strikingly weak and flip flopping around but im sure that's not the case.

Hugh must be akin to a dolphin -- they sleep with one hemisphere of the brain at a time, the other awake : )

Apparently Hugh's not the only one -- I've seen many here who are on top of things, no matter which time of day/night.

Kudos all Sol'dolphins!

Lolol whiteangel : )

It really did show 1734 for a while on that last line of the chart, precisely the M1.4, as I was watching the page auto-update a few times before I decided to post about it.

The flare number was not in the same color as the rest of the prior posted flares though. Perhaps they had put in a tentative region before actually double-checking on it...

ô_0 ...they make mistakes??!?

Meanwhile, I was doing the double-checking with your links, and yours made sense, while their hasty mention of 1734 did not. Hehe : )

AR1739 doesn't look like much, but it's got plenty of spark.

1734 on the other hand seems to be fading somewhat, but it's pointed right at Earth. If it gets active soon we could see a much larger event due to its size and location.

OOPS! I posted the wrong video as it seems Lockheed Solarsoft is still messed up over this flare. Their movie of the M-flare still shows 1734 which was flickering just before the M. Here's what they show:

I anticipate them straightening this out and posting a new movie of the M from 1739. This seems to always occur on weekends when the low-level chimps are at the controls, LOL.

Solar wind speeds are zig-zagging higher now. The spike in velocity is clearly seen at SOHO SW monitor:

[link to umtof.umd.edu]

ACE 6-hr SWEPAM plot:

[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

NOAA Reports-

Solar Wind -24 hr Summary...

ACE data indicated a Toward (-) to Away (+) solar sector boundary
crossing (SSBC) began around 05/1500 UTC accompanied by a gradual
increase in wind speed (peak 451 km/s at 05/1734 UTC) and density. Total
IMF intensity (Bt) showed a gradual increase beginning around 05/0700
UTC and had increased to as high as 8 nT by late in the period. These
changes likely indicated the presence of a co-rotating interaction
region in advance of a positive-polarity CH HSS.

Geospace -24 hr Summary...

The geomagnetic field was at quiet to unsettled levels.

.Forecast...
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels
during 06 - 07 May, with a slight chance for active levels, due to a CH
HSS and the possibility of a glancing blow from the southern flank of
the CME observed on 02 May.
Field activity is expected to decrease to
quiet levels on 08 May, with a slight chance for unsettled levels, as
the CH HSS gradually subsides.

Movie of today's M-flare from 1739

[link to www.youtube.com]

Solar Activity Summary from NOAA-

Solar activity was moderate. Region 1739 (N12E44) was by far the most
active spot group with an impulsive M1/Sf flare (R1 - Minor) at 05/1756
UTC and frequent C-class flares, including three C8 flares.
Gradual spot
and penumbral decay was noted in Region 1739, now classified as a
Dac/beta-gamma, as the delta configuration within its intermediate spots
appeared to dissipate. Region 1734 (S18W09) produced an isolated C-class
flare. It showed minor changes during the period and retained a
beta-gamma magnetic structure, though it appeared to simplify somewhat.
Region 1731 (N09W71) showed no significant change as it approached the
west limb. There was no Earth-directed CME activity during the period.
[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

AR1734 "Simplified Somewhat"-
:5/6-1734:

Joint USAF/NOAA Solar Region Summary
SRS Number 126 Issued at 0030Z on 06 May 2013

1739 N12E44 074 0140 Dac 10 08 Beta-Gamma
1740 S21E50 068 0020 Hrx 01 01 Alpha

The bright region coming over the SE limb is mostly a plage w/a tiny freckle or two. If any spots remain it should be numbered 1741. I noticed an energetic flare eruption on the far side (east) seen on the STEREO Behind EUVI. This region should come around in about 3 days.
