Lolol whiteangel : )

It really did show 1734 for a while on that last line of the chart, precisely the M1.4, as I was watching the page auto-update a few times before I decided to post about it.

The flare number was not in the same color as the rest of the prior posted flares though. Perhaps they had put in a tentative region before actually double-checking on it...

ô_0 ...they make mistakes??!?

Meanwhile, I was doing the double-checking with your links, and yours made sense, while their hasty mention of 1734 did not. Hehe : )

Hehe Hugh,

glad to see we are many with the dolphin brain, awake/aware hemisphere ;-)

Still wondering about your personalized Howdyhi from approx 12h ago... (see me reply after it)

"But look, you found the notice, didn't you?"
"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard."

AR1739 doesn't look like much, but it's got plenty of spark.

close-up of M1.4 flare:

[link to sdowww.lmsal.com]

1734 on the other hand seems to be fading somewhat, but it's pointed right at Earth. If it gets active soon we could see a much larger event due to its size and location.
 Quoting: Hugh M Eye

OOPS! I posted the wrong video as it seems Lockheed Solarsoft is still messed up over this flare. Their movie of the M-flare still shows 1734 which was flickering just before the M. Here's what they show:

[link to sdowww.lmsal.com]

I anticipate them straightening this out and posting a new movie of the M from 1739. This seems to always occur on weekends when the low-level chimps are at the controls, LOL.

Solar winds are increasing now from the coronal hole stream. The Bz has flipped to the positive side so we're not seeing any major disturbance so far.

Solar wind speeds are zig-zagging higher now. The spike in velocity is clearly seen at SOHO SW monitor:

[link to umtof.umd.edu]

ACE 6-hr SWEPAM plot:

[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

NOAA Reports-

Solar Wind -24 hr Summary...

ACE data indicated a Toward (-) to Away (+) solar sector boundary
crossing (SSBC) began around 05/1500 UTC accompanied by a gradual
increase in wind speed (peak 451 km/s at 05/1734 UTC) and density. Total
IMF intensity (Bt) showed a gradual increase beginning around 05/0700
UTC and had increased to as high as 8 nT by late in the period. These
changes likely indicated the presence of a co-rotating interaction
region in advance of a positive-polarity CH HSS.

Geospace -24 hr Summary...

The geomagnetic field was at quiet to unsettled levels.

.Forecast...
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels
during 06 - 07 May, with a slight chance for active levels, due to a CH
HSS and the possibility of a glancing blow from the southern flank of
the CME observed on 02 May.
Field activity is expected to decrease to
quiet levels on 08 May, with a slight chance for unsettled levels, as
the CH HSS gradually subsides.

Movie of today's M-flare from 1739

[link to www.youtube.com]

Solar Activity Summary from NOAA-

Solar activity was moderate. Region 1739 (N12E44) was by far the most
active spot group with an impulsive M1/Sf flare (R1 - Minor) at 05/1756
UTC and frequent C-class flares, including three C8 flares.
Gradual spot
and penumbral decay was noted in Region 1739, now classified as a
Dac/beta-gamma, as the delta configuration within its intermediate spots
appeared to dissipate. Region 1734 (S18W09) produced an isolated C-class
flare. It showed minor changes during the period and retained a
beta-gamma magnetic structure, though it appeared to simplify somewhat.
Region 1731 (N09W71) showed no significant change as it approached the
west limb. There was no Earth-directed CME activity during the period.

I thought I spied a new emerging active region NW of 1734. However NOAA points out that this is a resurrection of AR1736. There appears to be a strong electro-magnetic connection between it and 1734. Also, AR1741 has been numbered today as I predicted here yesterday.

NOAA's Latest Report-
.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity has been low for the past 24 hours. The largest event of
the period was a C2/Sf from Region 1739 (N12E30) at 06/0205 UTC. Region
1739 was also responsible for two addition low level C-class flares and
continued to show signs of decay in its follower spot group. Region 1731
(N09W85) produced a C1 flare at 06/1511 UTC as it continued its rotation
towards the western limb. New Region 1741 (S20E59) was numbered today
and is presenting as a Bxo/beta type group.
Regions 1740 (S21E36) and
1741 were both responsible for low level C-class flares and showed signs
of growth. Region 1736 (S07W39) reappeared on the disk as a Bxo/beta
spot group but did not show any significant flaring.
The other three
numbered sunspot regions were unremarkable. There were no Earth-directed
coronal mass ejections (CMEs) observed in satellite imagery during the
period.

Nice to see you my brother!rockon
It is understanding that transforms us, not merely the desire for change, and until a man obtains a thorough understanding of the nature of evil and so becomes equipped to respond wisely to its challenges, he will necessarily be detrimentally affected by it.
