Uh, GLP Effect? Luisport, you should know better, hehe. AR1739 again...it seems to like the C 8th-note.

NO GONG network working telescope now. It must be raining in CA and HI....what are the odds of that?

When we are watching a climber otherwise the silly curse takes place and the sun gets flare. Silly it is but........

Only when it is hitting the X-5 do we need to all start posting to stop the action. Hey, nothing wrong with a good dose of superstition!!!!
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. rockon

Lol whiteangel, you are right about potential miscoms in written form, especially when there is lack of gestual and facial expression...
spock is the exception to this of course! wink
"But the plans were on display . . ."
"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them."
"That's the display department."
"With a torch."
"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."
"So had the stairs."
"But look, you found the notice, didn't you?"
"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard."

I just saw a piece of Halley's Comet whiz by! The Eta-aquarids meteor shower is peaking now. It was fairly bright yellow and very fast like a speeding bullet.

The meteor scanners should be active, but go outside and look up towards the East if you can.

Movie of today's M-flare from 1739

[link to www.youtube.com]

Solar Activity Summary from NOAA-

Solar activity was moderate. Region 1739 (N12E44) was by far the most
active spot group with an impulsive M1/Sf flare (R1 - Minor) at 05/1756
UTC and frequent C-class flares, including three C8 flares.
Gradual spot
and penumbral decay was noted in Region 1739, now classified as a
Dac/beta-gamma, as the delta configuration within its intermediate spots
appeared to dissipate. Region 1734 (S18W09) produced an isolated C-class
flare. It showed minor changes during the period and retained a
beta-gamma magnetic structure, though it appeared to simplify somewhat.
Region 1731 (N09W71) showed no significant change as it approached the
west limb. There was no Earth-directed CME activity during the period.

AR1734 "Simplified Somewhat"-

The bright region coming over the SE limb is mostly a plage w/a tiny freckle or two. If any spots remain it should be numbered 1741. I noticed an energetic flare eruption on the far side (east) seen on the STEREO Behind EUVI. This region should come around in about 3 days.

I thought I spied a new emerging active region NW of 1734. However NOAA points out that this is a resurrection of AR1736. There appears to be a strong electro-magnetic connection between it and 1734. Also, AR1741 has been numbered today as I predicted here yesterday.

NOAA's Latest Report-
.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity has been low for the past 24 hours. The largest event of
the period was a C2/Sf from Region 1739 (N12E30) at 06/0205 UTC. Region
1739 was also responsible for two addition low level C-class flares and
continued to show signs of decay in its follower spot group. Region 1731
(N09W85) produced a C1 flare at 06/1511 UTC as it continued its rotation
towards the western limb. New Region 1741 (S20E59) was numbered today
and is presenting as a Bxo/beta type group.
Regions 1740 (S21E36) and
1741 were both responsible for low level C-class flares and showed signs
of growth. Region 1736 (S07W39) reappeared on the disk as a Bxo/beta
spot group but did not show any significant flaring.
The other three
numbered sunspot regions were unremarkable. There were no Earth-directed
coronal mass ejections (CMEs) observed in satellite imagery during the
period.

Why is the sun so bright lately.....it's like looking at a laser bean....and it's unbearably hot, you only have to be out in it for a few minutes and you start burning. Because you all monitor the sun thought you might have some clue's. .Or is it to do with the atmosphere? Just thought i'd put it out there, noticed it for a while now as have other's and no one seems to be saying anything.

Hello UKAC~I have heard the same from many different folks in many differing locations about the Globe(including myself)thing is,whatever the cause may be of a seemingly brighter Sun and the apparent ability to feel like you are being burned/pinched in relatively cool Temps. a lot easier than had been noticed before has to be of a Terrestrial Origin as the Sun isn't actually becoming any brighter as you can see from this graph [link to lasp.colorado.edu] .
