yeh. interesting catch. 1748 is the only region in that
Hydrogen Alpha imagery that is flashing high intensity white light. probably means it's more active, still, than the other regions.

the most popular astronomical object in the sky.
certainly more popular (with a greater following)
than any of the planets in our solar system.

"The gigantic solar storms of November 2003 severely depleted the ozone layer above the Arctic for as long as eight months, suggest newly released satellite observations. Ozone levels had reduced to just 40% of normal spring levels in 2004.

"We have never seen ozone close to this level in the northern hemisphere," says Cora Randall, a researcher with the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of Colorado at Boulder, US, and one of the study team."

It can never be Earth, the SOHO/LASCO cameras are pointing away from Earth. This is why CMEs coming straight at us look like 'haloes'. I'm fairly certain it's Mars. Besides Mercury, Mars is the only planet transiting the LASCO field-of-view this month, so it must be Mars.

Got a question for you Hugh - after a flare and when we know a CME is incoming, who do we know just how big the CME will be before it hits? What sites do we check?

I have just been watching ENLIL but that takes forever to update. Is it the stereo images we get? How dense it looks?

I saw something extremely bright fly over our house through the clouds near Shannondale...but the loud noise came after we saw it...thought it could've been a meteor...looked pretty cool!!

Heard a loud boom like someone had opened and slammed several exterior doors. Shook the house on Mountain lake road.
