Space Weather Message Code: ALTK04
Serial Number: 1652
Issue Time: 2013 Jul 09 2358 UTC

ALERT: Geomagnetic K-index of 4
Threshold Reached: 2013 Jul 09 2359 UTC
Synoptic Period: 2100-2400 UTC
Active Warning: Yes

Potential Impacts: Area of impact primarily poleward of 65 degrees Geomagnetic Latitude.
Induced Currents - Weak power grid fluctuations can occur.
Aurora - Aurora may be visible at high latitudes such as Canada and Alaska.

KUDOS to NOAA! They saw that CME w/o SOHO images analysis (I think they're catching on, hehe)...from their latest update-

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity was low. Region 1785 (S12W31, Ekc/beta-gamma-delta)
produced occasional C-class flares, the largest of which was a C4 at
08/2219 UTC. Region 1785 maintained a delta magnetic configuration
within its intermediate spots. It also showed minor penumbral decay in
the western half of the region. Region 1787 (S15W09, Eai/beta-gamma)
produced a couple of B9 x-ray flares during the period. It showed no
significant changes and maintained a beta-gamma magnetic configuration.
Region 1784 (S16W76, Axx/alpha) gradually decayed as it approached the
west limb. A 12-degree filament, centered near N26E20, erupted at around
09/1400 UTC. An Earth-directed coronal mass ejection (CME) was
associated with the filament eruption. An analysis of STEREO coronagraph
images indicated a speed of around 400 km/s for this CME
.

Geospace

.24 hr Summary...
The geomagnetic field was at quiet to unsettled levels.

.Forecast...
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to increase to quiet to active
levels during Jul 10 - 11, with a slight chance for minor storm levels
(G1 - Minor), due to passages from the CMEs observed on Jul 06 and Jul
07.
Field activity is expected to decrease to quiet levels on Jul 12,
with a chance for unsettled levels, as CME effects subside. Todays
Earth-directed CME is not expected to significantly affect the field
during the forecast period.

whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

also, in relation to the next newest explanation, those guys are like a dog on a bone. The "empty space" around the sun is the fuel for the hotter outer layer. I feel like a third grader could figure it out at this point. They have to put their pride aside and work with EU guys to come up with the whole picture. This is just my opinion.

Re: SOLAR WATCH * 312 M & 25 X FLARES starting 3-7-2011 (Updated Daily)
hello solar crew

quick and easy question: someone usual sunbaths without a lotion? i've never used any lotion even after a hole day at the beach and i'm always fine, with a nice tan. also, i change my skin every summer and that makes me feel good. never had a sunburn!

but no one else i know can do this. the sun makes their skin turn red in just a few hours. why am i different? (no, i'm not black)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43087786

This is more of a medical question. I do not burn as well and am pale when I do not get sunlight. When exposed to sun my skin can get darker than most dark skinned people without burning. If I am exposed to certain intense sunlight for an extreme period at first, before a base tan... I will burn slightly. After the base tan I am fine without sunscreen. In the winter I turn pale again. I do not wear sunscreen, I rarely use soap or deodorant and my natural scent is neutral. I have been exposed to the sun in the middle east, med and in australia without problems. I grew up with the sun perhaps got conditioned to it... my family and community are similar but to a lesser extent. Hope this helps)
 Quoting: M1.618

thats my case also! i'm pale but when i get some sun i look like a middle east guy. only my mother as this same feature but she prefers to use sunscreen... same thing about the soap, no deodorant (i'm alergic) and also no scent (almost no sweat our body odor).

i've also grew up with the sun because since little that my doctor prescribes large seasons at the beach to figth my asma condition.

thank you for your answer

Re: SOLAR WATCH * 312 M & 25 X FLARES starting 3-7-2011 (Updated Daily)
bit off topic, but fyi. (p. la violette)
"G2 Cloud Predicted to Approach Twice as Close to GC"
...Recent observations of the G2 cloud made in the near infrared at the Keck Observatory indicate that the cloud will reach its closest approach to the Galactic center around mid March of 2014 instead of June of this year. Also the new findings indicate that G2′s orbit will take the cloud twice as close to the GC than previously thought. The distance of closest approach is now predicted to be 130 AU rather than 266 AU, as previously thought. If the star embedded in the G2 cloud is a binary system or contains a single star with orbiting planets, there is the danger that the Galactic core may tidally strip away the lower mass companion star or one or more companion planets at the time the stellar system is at orbital pericenter closest to the core. In that case the consequences could be catastrophic. For example, if an entire 100 jupiter mass brown dwarf were to plunge into the Galactic core in one sudden event, it is almost certain that it could jump-start the core into an active Seyfert state and generate a potentially lethal superwave..."

I'm not really sure. I think it was from one of the C flares. Or form the earlier filament eruption.
