Ouch. Sorry OJ for silence and lack of interest. You should've gone for a front page pin on this, LOL. These laughable YT vids are usually not worthy of comment, however I sometimes find them a challenge to do some extra research and learn something new, which is why I'm here. We've seen so many of these vids claiming the moon's too bright, in the wrong place, flipped upside-down, etc.

First of all, you've got to realize that everyone but the blind can see the moon, including 100's of thousands (if not millions) of well-equipped amateur astronomers. If anything dramatic or anomalous was happening it would be obvious to all observers and impossible for NASA to 'cover-it-up' even if they wanted to.

Secondly, if you get a good astronomical calendar (I Heartily recommend Guy Ottwell's) you can get a good grasp of the moon's apparent movement and phase illumination from different latitudes on Earth. Yes, just like the sun and the stars, the moon looks different to observers in different parts of our globe.
Recently (last week) we had a close conjunction of the Moon, Venus and Spica. If you look closely at these pics, you will notice that the tilt of the crescent moon looks radically different in Brazil compared to Canada. In fact, South America got to see an rare occultation of Venus while Northern Hemisphere viewers did not. These events are known and forecast years in advance (almost to the exact second!); if the moon or the Earth moved or tilted unexpectedly everyone would know it and you wouldn't have to watch youTube find out.

Yes but did he put the elements in wrong in the infomaris program or is it the program that is inaccurate?? i know the moon's still fine lol i was just trying to figure out how he came to his conclusion so i could post on his page to help him out devil6lol

I've never seen the sun's x-ray output this weak since I started following this thread. Just barely floating above the "A" range is unacceptable for a solar maximum....somebody wake old Sol.

[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

Hopefully we'll see a few flares this week as it looks like 3 active regions may be coming over soon.

STEREO B EUVI movie:

[link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

I stumbled on this heady article concerning solar x-rays and Iron ions-

"Highly charged ions – that is, atoms which have been stripped off most of their electrons – play an important role in astrophysics. Within the large accumulations of visible (luminous) matter in the universe, the highly charged state is the natural one. This is the case in stellar atmospheres as well as in the interior of stars, where temperatures of several million degrees Celsius rule. Highly charged ions also abound around exotic objects such as neutron stars or black holes. Before matter plunges into their cores, it delivers gravitational energy, heating up and emitting extremely intense X-rays, which can be observed.

X-rays also determine the energy transport inside the Sun. At its core temperature of 15 million degrees, a natural fusion power plant runs with a total capacity of about 4·1026 watts. The power density of 200 watts per cubic meter is, however, modest, and corresponds to about that of a compost heap. In contrast to such, the Sun is very large. If the solar core would freely radiate X-rays at those temperatures, a power exceeding the fusion energy yield by 11 orders of magnitude would be lost. The sun works because the radiation transport to the outside is inhibited, thus maintaining the high core temperature. Convection, the heat transport by turbulent upstream flows of hot matter, only takes place further outward, starting at about 70% of the solar radius. This good insulation reduces hydrogen consumption and extends the duration of fusion in our central star to the billions of years that are needed for the formation of a stable planetary system, and ultimately for the development of life."

Yo sol'patrol hi

I just came across this fresh Thornews vid on the Colorado flooding, where Thor gives praise to GLP for earthquake and weather coverage, and also features a thread from Luisporthf

from 4min30 to 4min44

"But the plans were on display . . ."
"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them."
"That's the display department."
"With a torch."
"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."
"So had the stairs."
"But look, you found the notice, didn't you?"
"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard."

It's not what you say, but how you say it.

I read this thread almost everyday, and I look forward to the findings of all, whether I agree with what they have found, or hypothesis's they may arrive at.

Hugh, you may get frustrated with other people's findings, but it will never compare with the "frustration" I feel when you you cut them down as an "all knowing" authority.

I really hope this does not inhibit anyone here, including the lurkers (I see you wink ) from contributing here.

Until Hugh learns some people skills, we just need to ignore the retorts, and his condescending behavior.

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan

Study indicates space weather may be to blame for some satellite failures
Is your cable television on the fritz? One explanation, scientists suspect, may be the weather - the weather in space, that is. MIT researchers are investigating the effects of space weather - such as solar flares, geomagnetic storms and other forms of electromagnetic radiation - on geostationary satellites, which provide much of the world's access to cable television, Internet services and global communications.

From what I understand, disruptions in the TV satellites are the same as the disruptions in the GOES satellites in the fall and spring equinoxes, which would be now.
