May i know, is it only this times that our sun is frequently "bombarded" and fastly "reacted" to shooting comets? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29533508 valid question ..... has the sun always reacted to comets and cruisers or is this a recent phenomenom..... i`m no expert but this has been a regularily observable phenomenom for at least ten years......not always but more often than not... imo. anyone else |

Its following in the foot tails of a small CH, so we've got potential for sure, and more coming around the bend. Its nice to see these spots start to behave the way they should.Peace “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan |

No surprise, since the biggest sunspots are now Earth-facing. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21765116 [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] Doesn't really mean anything. It could still flare up. |

Thread: Astronomy friend just rang me concerning Betelgeuse going Nova! (Page 2) Any astronomers out there that confirm this? This would be the spectacle of a lifetime when it happens. Betelgeuse may explode tomorrow night, or it may not go nova until the year 100,000 A.D. It's impossible to know.* Betelgeuse is beyond the death beam distance -somwhere within 30 light years range- where it could do ultimate damage to Earth. The explosion won't do the Earth any harm, as a star has to be relatively close -- on the order of 25 light years -- to do that. Hugh M Eye User ID: 47869419 United States 10/12/2013 05:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | NOAA at least acknowledges a halo CME, but they don't have much to say about it. But remember a last week's C1 filament flare, how the CME reached us 24-hours earlier than expected? Well it's possible we may see a repeat or a similar event. .24hr Summary... Solar activity was low. Regions 1861 (S09W01, Dkc/beta-gamma-delta) and 1865 (S23E25, Dao/beta-gamma-delta) continue to be the largest and most magnetically complex regions on the solar disk. A faint filament eruption CME is believed to have lifted off the solar disk at around 12/00 UTC from a location in close proximity of Region 1861 and associated with a C6/Sf flare the occurred at 11/2307 UTC. The event appears as a very faint asymmetric full halo from LASCO C3 perspective with an estimated speed of ~500 km/s. However, due to very limited imagery, confidence in a precise parameterization of the event is low to moderate. Further analysis of this event will continue as more data becomes available. Hugh M Eye User ID: 47869419 United States 10/12/2013 08:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hi, Dettro, I think that's the one that whacked our magnetosphere 24 hrs. ahead of shcedule last Tuesday. This 'Earth-facing quiet' by large active regions is driving me crazy. AR1861 is much less active today than the past two days. I'm at a loss to see any logical explanation for it. I keep coming back to the old Heisenberg Principle that our observations somehow influence events, but the sun is so huge that I can't wrap my mind around that being the answer. Still, I do have a gut-feeling that we're gonna see some fireworks soon. |
