Yes, we've had 2 or 3 but far fewer than one would expect. March 10, 2012 and another in July 2012 are the only ones I can recall off the top of my head. |

Didn't think the July 2012 one looked that big but I know I was concerned about it as I was going on vacation. We thought it would be okay but there was a small shadow of doubt also Isaiah 5:20 KJV Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! madajs. User ID: 49290522 Canada 11/07/2013 07:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | “We’ve never had a comet that seems to come directly from the Oort Cloud, on its first passage to the inner solar system in four billion years, all the way to within three solar radii of the solar surface,” says astronomer Michael Kelley of the University of Maryland, College Park. Quoting: [link to www.scientificamerican.com] Part of the reason ISON is so unpredictable is because it is the first of its kind. “It’s this unique combination where it’s something from the Oort Cloud that’s never experienced this heat before, and then it’s coming into this extreme environment where the change in temperature and gravitational pull makes it hard for us to predict what’s going to happen,” says Matthew Knight, an astronomer at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Interesting, I didn't know there was so much about ISON that was unprecedented. If it's this rare to have such a pristine comet graze the sun, it makes you wonder. Perhaps a comet that has never discharged electrically before will have a much more potent conflict with the Sun's field. Will be interesting to find out Last Edited by madajs. on 11/07/2013 07:08 PM And always, he fought the temptation to choose a clear, safe course, warning: "That path leads ever down into stagnation." |

Have a good night, peeps. whoa indeed, that thing is fast SOHO/LASCO coronagraph observed another halo CME on November 7. It first appeared in the LASCO C2 field of view at 10:36 UT, had angular width of 360 degrees (full halo) and the plane-of-the-sky projected speed of around 1600 km/s. The inspection of the SDO/AIA and STEREO/SECCHI data indicates that the CME source region was situated on the far side of the Sun (around N10E150 i.e. 60 degrees behind the east solar limb). This CME is therefore not expected to arrive at the Earth. [link to www.sidc.oma.be] "Fear paints pictures of ghosts and hangs them in the gallery of ignorance." Robert Green Ingersoll |

Perhaps a comet that has never discharged electrically before will have a much more potent conflict with the Sun's field. Will be interesting to find out I pretty much killed my 'ISON-directed X-flare' thread when nothing happened within my time-frame. This may have been premature as I'm now seeing 'ISON-has-come-alive' reports. As you may know the strong CMEs from 1875's X & M-flares were ISON-directed. Also, the recent big CME (depicted above) from the west limb is headed in ISON's general direction. Now I see reports of ISON developing an ion tail, which I believe is from the solar protons launched in its direction. Hugh M Eye User ID: 48848344 United States 11/07/2013 08:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | WATCH OUT FOR FALLING SPACE JUNK!- ESA's GOCE satellite to crash & burn soon!- A European satellite that mapped Earth’s gravitational field in exquisite detail will be pulled down by gravity to its fiery destruction sometime in the next few days. Where and when it will crash no one knows. It could be almost anywhere on the globe. About 25 to 45 fragments of the one-ton spacecraft are expected to survive all the way to the surface, with the largest perhaps weighing 200 pounds. It is the latest in a parade of spacecraft falling from the sky in what are worryingly called “uncontrolled entries.” About 100 tons of debris will fall from the sky this year alone. [link to www.nytimes.com] ASTEROIDS, too! "... now a team of scientists is suggesting that the Earth is vulnerable to many more Chelyabinsk-size space rocks than was previously thought. In research being published Wednesday by the journal Nature, they estimate that such strikes could occur as often as every decade or two." [link to www.nytimes.com] |
