"...I can see the sun settin' fast..." Sorry to get drunk and post a lot of music vids , but I may be outta-here soon. I'm very humbled and indebted to the anonymous donor who upgraded my account, and want to say 'God bless and keep you" whoever you are. Life has thrown me nothing but curveballs for the last 18 years. Some of you may be surprised that I've been homeless or "near homeless" since I discovered this website . It appears that I'll be 'home-challenged' again in the near future. If I go away soon, please keep up the vigil.

Sorry to hear that Hugh.. and being in that situation in Atlanta must make it doubly difficult.

I looked online and found a job in Boulder that you might be qualified for

[link to www.usajobs.gov (secure)]

SALARY RANGE: $73,848.00 to $96,001.00 / Per Year
OPEN PERIOD: Friday, June 13, 2014 to Friday, June 27, 2014

This position is located at the National Centers for Environmental Prediction Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado. This full-performance level position is responsible for a wide range of computer programming, analysis, network, and/or equipment assignments.

I'm sure you could be a leading candidate based on your work here and great interest in all things solar. As a matter of fact you'd probably have a giant head start on any one else.

Here's a list of staff phone numbers

[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

Good luck bro..

ETA: Just noticed the job was more computer related than solar related, but in any event Boulder sounds like a much safer area, and if a more suitable job opened up you'd already be there if you decided to relocate.

I've been in the same boat before. Many times, a change of scenery will be a huge relief. Atlanta is a festering shithole imo and I couldn't imagine being there when tshtf as it's getting ready to do (WW3)

not sure if Hugh has actually been homeless before, but it's much easier to relocate with little or no $ if you swallow your pride and use available resources (shelters etc.)

I just checked the Boulder area resources and they seem fairly extensive.

SDO/AIA 171 movie of X-flare:

[link to sdowww.lmsal.com]

Space Weather Message Code: ALTTP2
Serial Number: 919
Issue Time: 2014 Mar 29 1821 UTC

ALERT: Type II Radio Emission
Begin Time: 2014 Mar 29 1753 UTC
Estimated Velocity: 4508 km/s
wtfhiding

Comment: Associated with X1/2b event from Region 2017. Also associated with Castelli U radio Burst with 110,000 sfu burst on 245 MHz.
Description: Type II emissions occur in association with eruptions on the sun and typically indicate a coronal mass ejection is associated with a flare event.
 Quoting: Hugh M Eye

Thread: X-flare!! Hurls CME travelling at 2800 miles per second, fastest ever recorded

from page 2378..

I have a bad gut feeling hmmm
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9544312

I just saw this video by SIC, read the description and am wondering what sort of effect there will be since they associated the CME specifically with that high velocity.

description: Recorded on March 29, 2014 | 17h30-18h30 UTC
Strong solar X-ray flux reaching X1.0 Class Flare associated with Castelli U radio Burst occured at 17h48UTC on AR2017. Signature of a large-scale solar coronal shockwave (Moreton Wave) on the Northern hemisphere (oscillations detected). Estimated Velocity: 4508 km/s associated with strong Coronal Mass Ejection. This eruption could have an Earth directed component...

I thought Hugh's CACTus link cleared that up but now I'm not so sure:/
 Quoting: RTS REDUX

I think the CME went inward instead of outward and the Sun itself absorbed most of the shockwave

Re: SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)
[link to www.spacedaily.com]

The first measurement was of magnetic fields that can be used to detect giant electric current sheets that lead to HFAs. The second was of the heating of the charged particles. The scientists then analyzed this information to quantify what kind of turbulence exists in the region, which provided the final smoking gun of an HFA.

Not only is this the first sighting of HFAs at Mercury, but the observations help round out a picture of this type of space weather in general.

HFAs come in a variety of scale sizes - from around 600 miles across at Venus to closer to 60,000 miles across at Saturn. This study suggests that the most important factor for determining HFA size is the geometry and size of the planet's bow shock.

well there you go then..there's alot of money to be made in the pot industry. I've known several southern transplants to the NW and I'm sure it's not that uncommon in Colorado either.

Where I'm at (E. WA) pot is going on sale OTC this month. I'm pretty sure they are in the process of hiring clerks for the dispensaries. Minimum wage here is something like $10.00/hr and cost of living is low

AR2087 (of 3X fame) Is Growng Again-

AR2089 Loses Delta Again-

NOAA .24 hr Summary...
Solar activity remained at low levels. Region 2087 (S19W22,
Dsc/beta-gamma) produced the largest event of the period, a C4/Sf flare
at 17/0510 UTC. The region continued to grow throughout the day and
maintained a beta-gamma magnetic configuration. Region 2089 (N17W62,
Dkc/beta-gamma) also produced a C-class flare during the period but is
showing signs of decay. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed.

Solar Wind -24 hr Summary...

Solar wind parameters were nominal throughout the majority of the
period. However, just after 17/1700 UTC, solar winds increased to speeds
near 440 km/s, along with an increase in temperature, and peaked near
500 km/s at 17/2303 UTC. IMF total field also increased and peaked at 10
nT before the end of the day, while Bz reached a maximum southward
deviation near -8 nT. The phi angle was variable throughout much of the
period, but settled into a negative (towards) orientation around 17/1700
UTC as well. The increase in solar wind parameters indicates the arrival
of the anticipated negative polarity coronal hole high speed stream (CH
HSS).
