The simulation starts on the 7th but the cme leaves today, date stamp it mi amigo. The wave causes the plasma surrounding the spacecraft to sing.” Scientists studied these waves and came to the conclusion, in the fall of 2013, that Voyager had departed the sun's bubble and entered a new frontier. “All is not quiet around Voyager,” said Don Gurnett of the University of Iowa, Iowa City, the principal investigator of the plasma wave instrument on the craft. “We're excited to analyze these new data. So far, we can say that it confirms we are in interstellar space.” Thats awesome stuff Luis! “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. Me three. SOHO C3 seems to show a CME going mostly north and east. [link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov] And STEREO B also shows the densest plasma going north of the ecliptic. Hugh M Eye User ID: 27490507 United States 07/09/2014 09:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | NOAA & Solarsoft both seem to have missed this filament eruption. NOAA attributes the C5 to 2104 in the west, and Solarsoft lists the source at a ridiculous 41 degrees south. I'm fairly certain the filament liftoff produced the C5 double-ribbon flare just north of the equator in the NE. How could they miss something so obvious? That legal weed must be spectacular! SOHO C2 movie of CME: [link to www.lmsal.com] NOAA 24 hr Summary... Solar activity reached minor levels (R1) due to an M1 event at 09/0026 UTC from Region 2113 (N09E35, Dai/beta-gamma). A type II radio sweep was associated with this event and there was a hint of a very small, faint coronal mass ejection off the east limb beginning at about 09/0125 UTC. This CME is not expected to have any impact at Earth. The only other activity of note was a C5/Sf at 09/1839 UTC from Region 2104 (S12W67, Dso/beta). Regions 2108 (S07W39, Ekc/beta-gamma-delta) and 2109 (S08W17, Eki/beta-delta) continue to dominate the disk in size and complexity but only produced a few small flares. Region 2108 continues to show rotation in the large leader spot and the trailer portion of the group was spreading out thereby weakening the overall magnetic field gradient. Region 2109 showed slight growth in the leader spots and decay in the trailer spots. Overall the areas of these groups were down and the activity was reduced. Region 2113 showed signs of decay today. The area of the group is small (about 60 millionths) and the magnetic field strengths are relatively weak. The magnetic structure is somewhat complicated and consists of three or possibly four negative-to-positive polarity pairs that are abutted and stacked within the group. [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] Our big unproductive sunspots are gradually decaying and blushing with embarrassment being shown-up by tiny 2113. I still think 2108 is our best bet for Big Event, but it hasn't shown us anything so far. Hugh M Eye User ID: 27490507 United States 07/10/2014 03:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm a bit perplexed by this CME. According to Solarsoft the C5 flare came from AR2106 which is about 30 degrees from the NW limb. Yet the iSWA cone model shows a backside (beyond the limb) source of this CME Solarsoft movie of C5 flare: [link to sdowww.lmsal.com] NASA/iSWA cone model: [link to iswa.gsfc.nasa.gov:8080] To top it off, NOAA says it's too far west to affect Earth, yet we've seen potent storms and proton events come from the west limb (sometimes from over the limb events!). If the CME came from AR2106 I would predict at least a glancing blow, maybe even a strong one. NOAA .24 hr Summary... Solar activity was low. Region 2104 (S11W73, Dso/beta) produced a C5/Sf at 09/1839 UTC. Region 2106 (N16W68, Cao/beta) produced the only other notable flare, a C5/1n flare at 10/0253 UTC. Region 2111 (N06W10, Dso/beta) was the only region to display any type of growth. The remaining regions were either stable or exhibited signs of decay, and all were relatively inactive. Despite their size and complexity, Regions 2108 (S07W39, Ekc/beta-gamma) and 2109 (S08W17, Eki/beta) remained predominantly inactive and only produced a few small sub flares. An approximately 18 degree long filament, centered near S02E11, was observed in SDO AIA/304 imagery lifting off of the visible disk from approximately 09/1640-1757 UTC. This coronal mass ejection (CME) could be seen in Lasco C2/C3 imagery shortly before 09/1900 UTC. A subsequent Enlil run determined this CME will likely only be a glancing blow at Earth, with little impacts expected. Anticipated arrival time at Earth is around midday on 13 Jul. A large prominence on the southwest limb could also be seen in SDO AIA/304 imagery, as well as an asymmetric, partial halo CME in Lasco C2/C3 imagery, around 10/0800 UTC. An additional Enlil run was submitted for the second CME, but the results clearly indicate that it was too far west to have an impact at Earth. [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] The STEREO B cor 2 movie shows 2 nice CMEs from near the west limb: [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] EDIT:After closr review I notice the CME came 5 or 6 hours after the flare, so it may have been a far-side eruption.
