The partially-occulted event produced an M1.1 flare and another long duration flare it currently in progress. Here is a short movie of the eruption associated with the M1.1 flare. That flare peaked around 18:37 UT (10/14/2014). The video from SDO is a composite of 171, 193 and 131 angstrom wavelengths. credit: NASA/SDO/LMSAL |

hugh m eye User ID: 62646444 United States 10/14/2014 10:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow and double-wow! Big CME observed by SOHO C3: [link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov] I'm fairly certain this was from old 2172 which produced many flares at 12-14 degrees south last rotation. SOHO C2 recent images: [link to sohodata.nascom.nasa.gov] NOAA says..." The only solar activity today resulted from two eruptions observed well around the SE limb of the visible solar disk. The first event was an impulsive M1 flare at 14/1837 UTC. This event had an associated Tenflare (1300 sfu), but no other CME related radio signatures. Shortly after, a second x-ray enhancement occurred, a long duration M2 flare which peaked at 14/2121 UTC. This event had an associated Tenflare of 180 sfu. Based on source location around the East limb, no Earth directed CMEs are expected from these events. This can be indicative of significant radio noise in association with a solar flare. This noise is generally short-lived but can cause interference for sensitive receivers including radar, GPS, and satellite communications. [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] |

The geomagnetic disturbance and increased protons WAS from the CME (filament eruption) from the 10th. My 'gut feeling' trumps NOAA's forecasting yet again, hahaha. NOAA's (updated) Geospace 24 hr Summary... The geomagnetic field was at quiet to minor storm levels, as the result of the glancing blow passage of the CME observed leaving the Sun on 10 Oct. .Forecast... Quiet to minor storm conditions have been forecast for day one (15 Oct) as residual CME effects persist. Quiet to unsettled conditions are forecast for days two and three (16-17 Oct) as the result of waning CME effects combined with multiple expected solar sector changes.
