We've seen these dormant periods before and I'm sure we'll get some more X-flares in a couple of weeks. From its reflected brightness, astronomers estimate that the asteroid is about a third of a mile (0.5 kilometers) in size. The flyby of 2004 BL86 will be the closest by any known space rock this large until asteroid 1999 AN10 flies past Earth in 2027. At the time of its closest approach on January 26, the asteroid will be approximately 745,000 miles (1.2 million kilometers) from Earth. (snip) The asteroid is expected to be observable to amateur astronomers with small telescopes and strong binoculars. [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Absolutely mindblowing video shot from the Space Shuttle during launch [link to i.warosu.org (secure)] Drop whatever you're doing and watch this. NASA has released videos shot from onboard the Space Shuttle's Solid Rocket Boosters in the past, but you've never seen one prepared as masterfully as this. For one thing, the footage was shot in high definition, so the image is exceptionally clear. But what puts this video head and shoulders above most other rocketcams is the sound. The audio has been remastered by the folks over at Skywalker Sound (yes, that Skywalker Sound), and the final product is nothing short of incredible. Michael Interbartolo — who used to work on the Shuttle Program at Mission Control in Houston — had this to say about the video when he posted it to Google+ earlier this morning:<50% [link to io9.com] Last Edited by RTS REDUX on 01/19/2015 08:59 AM |

Good stuff, matey, I hope I don't have to apologize to all the Planet X'ers yet, LOL. I find it perplexing though that they have found several Earth-like planets around far away stars, yet they can't see a larger-than-Earth planet in our own solar system? I'll have to do more research on this, but I smell big grant money, haha. Last Edited by Sol Reflector on 01/20/2015 12:18 AM Sol Reflector |
