Moderate Storming
A high speed solar wind stream flowing from a geoeffective coronal hole is stirring up geomagnetic activity at high latitudes. A moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm was observed. Sky watchers should be alert for visual aurora if it is still dark outside.

A lot of spots are on the disk now. Today's Sunspot # was 88; we may see a 200+ SS# soon. I count about 10 AR's now.

SOLAR PROBE PLUS scheduled for launch on July 31st, 2018, at a cost of $389 Million (damn, just for the actual launch!).

SPP will be the first mission to fly through the sun's outer atmosphere - the solar corona - to examine two fundamental aspects of solar physics: why the corona is so much hotter than the sun's surface, and what accelerates the solar wind that affects Earth and our solar system. Understanding these fundamental phenomena has been a top-priority science goal for more than five decades.

SPP will orbit the sun 24 times, closing to within 3.9 million miles of its surface with the help of seven Venus flybys.

NOAA Solar Activity 24 hr Summary...

Solar activity was at low levels. Multiple low level C-class flares were
observed - the largest of the period was a C3 at 23/0911 UTC from a
region on the limb near S26, not yet able to be numbered. Slight growth
was observed in Regions 2305 (S08E50, Ekc/beta-gamma), 2308 (N17W53,
Cao/beta), and 2309 (N15W18, Cro/beta). Three new regions were numbered
today as Region 2310 (N05E54, Cao/beta), 2311 (N11W47, Hrx/alpha), and
2312 (N08E68, Axx/alpha). No CMEs were observed on a Sun-Earth
trajectory.

.Forecast...
Solar activity is likely to be at low levels with a slight chance for an
M-class (R1-Minor) flare for the forecast period (24-26 Mar).
