For awhile I was watching the activity myself, but my life got busy and I don't have as much time to spend on the computer. I am aware of some of the effects of the sun and have been trying to educate my sons as well as friends and even strangers. Most people don't seem to be interested or even believe what I have to say, but that's o.k.--that's their choice. I mentioned to my sons tonight that the TV is probably down because of a solar flare and they just roll their eyes and say "okay, mom". Oh well, I will try to make a point to get back to checking out your thread more often. Thanks again, have a great night! A little before 8:30 I checked and the bz was about 3 nT south and the density was under 0.5 protons. The auroras were visible earlier but kind of dim so I went outside to see if they had faded out. I was surprised I could still see them. On the eastern edge of the horizon, some red shot up. Then over half the sky lit up like you see in the pictures and lasted under 15 minutes. I saw similar pictures from New York at the same time. How can the sky suddenly fill with auroras even though the storm was weak at the time according to the numbers? I hope I've explained myself well enough. |
