we got something here

solar wind speed just spiked
[link to www2.nict.go.jp]

it went from:

Solar wind
speed: 259.2 km/sec
density: 0.2 protons/cm3

to:
Solar wind
speed: 842.5 km/sec
density: 0.0 protons/cm3

and look at all the drops and spikes in solar wind speed here

 Quoting: Spittin'Cesium

Yes, Cesium, very slow solar wind-though it should pick up some later today from the coronal hole and CMEs from the 26th. I think the anomalous spikes shown in the ACE data is just erroneous data. So I did some searching and found some disheartening information about ACE/NOAA data troubles.

"Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) was only built to withstand the effects from 'average solar flare', not a 'significant solar flare'. NASA knows ACE 13-year-old sensors will 'cease to function before a significant solar flare even passes ACE in space'."...and.."ACE has exceeded its NASA calculated life expectance."(sic) and further...
...."1-day to 4-day warnings of impending space weather storms use Coronal Mass Ejaection (CME) imagery received now from NASA/ESA SOHO and NASA STEREO satellites. Launched in 1995, 1997, and 2006, all of these satellites have exceeded their 2-year design life. Without immediate action, NOAA will lose two (2) of ots most critical space weather observation data sources when NASA ACE and the NASA/ESA SOHO satellites fail." As if we didn't have enough doom to worry about, solar max may hit us blind-sided.

Region 11305 [N12W12] developed slowly with a magnetic delta structure forming in a new penumbra just south of the main penumbra. Further M class flares are possible.
[link to www.solen.info]

sunspot 1305 is now named - sunspot 1330 on this rotation

the same region, same location, Today:
Region 11330 [N07W12] decayed in the trailing spot section while some development occurred to the east of the large leader penumbra.
[link to www.solen.info]

1330 is the sleeping giant

side note -
i have been having tons of ear ringing today

Im getting a "sun" headache. Usually only happens with decent sized flares, M+. The headache doesnt go away until whatever has to let loose from the sun, actually happens.
Anyone else?

Hi, NIN.cool2 Since the current activity has been low, I've been doing some exploring on the web. I've found some great sites you may want to add to your collection if you don't have them yet.

Marshall Spaceflight Center has a fantastic solar education site. This is an easy-to-understand outline of solar physics and a rich reference resource. I highly recommend it.
[link to solarscience.msfc.nasa.gov]

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Heliophysics Research Resources- links to all NASA missions related to the Sun and its mysteries, including some I wasn't aware of. This is intended for researchers- not the general public. Explore, lol.
[link to science.gsfc.nasa.gov]

George Mason University has an incredible CME-tracking program there: SEEDS:

[link to spaceweather.gmu.edu]

NSWP-National Space Weather Program- here we get into the bureacracy end of things. This where I learned that 57% of space weather operational budget is military; 20% is NASA, 14% is NOAA. the remainder is "other". This federal 'interagency initiative" is set up as "a partnership between academia, industry, and government". Participants include Dept. of Interior, Dept. of Defense, Dept. of Commerce, Dept. of Energy, Dept. of Transportation, the National Science Foundation, and NASA. Check out their "Documents" section for some interesting reading (my favorite is the DoD Nat'l Space Weather Architecture Transition Plan), as well as the other links.

You realise of course that tinnitus is one of the PLAGUES associated with the end times and the comet as per the Bible in the time of Moses. Also it should be associated with a general happiness for the children of GOD.This should happen very soon as according to the song What a wonderful word by Louis Armstrong the red roses are blossoming and here in Argentina, in the Promised Place, the red roses are blossoming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
