Well I thought I would toss my hat in and give this a try.

That was great, Tom! Your zoom-in technique is enviable, haha. I look forward to more in the days/months ahead.

I found some more interesting images since SOHO, SDO, and STEREO images have been spotty of late. Here's the GOES-15 X-ray imager recent pic.

[link to iswa.gsfc.nasa.gov:8080]

And a scary-looking LASCO EIT Difference gif:

[link to lasco-www.nrl.navy.mil]

And the Cor 2 Difference shows strange ripples or shockwaves from that CME:

Thanks Hugh. I was on ISWA looking over some of those images just a little while ago. The leading edge of that CME is quite remarkable.

GoodMorning allgrouphug

Awesome Vid TOM!hf

Nothing special but:

some reminder...thx by kevin

On this day back on Nov 4, 2003, the largest Solar Flare ever recorded took place around a Sunspot then numbered 486. The flare registered X28+, but was located on the southwest limb and out of direct Earth view. Some estimates are said that the flare was actually X40+. Watch the video below to relive the action.

SUNSPOT Update (i try..^^):

Region 1339 continued to grow

it is now a EKC type group with a size of 1400 millionths. It also increased to a Beta-Gamma-Delta magnetic configuration.

Region 1338 also increased it is now at 375 millionths and a Beta-Gamma type group

There is also another 'active region' to rotate into view over the north-east limb over the coming days...

hey nin, do you mind the nasa IBEX real time dialogue being posted in your thread
feels home for it here to me but it may not to you rockon

I enjoy reading your posts, please forgive me for jumping into the aether..
 Quoting: IBEX

Electrons were not discovered for another thirty years, after Maxwell's death. He was not aware of their existence or that they emit photons/light or that they are associated with electromagnetic fields. The "knowledge" that light is an electromagnetic wave has persisted ever since.
 Quoting: observation

A word of caution: there are many types of light "emission". E.g. the emission of light due to an electron "falling" into a lower energy level "orbit" around a nucleus.. (photo-electric effect) or bremstrahllung, synchrotron, gamma-rays, etc. The generation of this light can be easily visualized by simply considering that a charged particle has an electric field extending out from it to great distances. Accelerating this charged particle therefore changes the associated field as seen from some distant point. The ripple in the field as the change in field moves out from the accelerated particle is called "light". If the acceleration of the charged particle is sudden and of short duration, and quantized (fixed to a certain set of energies) we call the change in field that moves from the location a "photon". If the acceleration is continuous we don't call it a photon but e.g. a radio wave.
 Quoting: IBEX

... and light is not an electromagnetic wave.

... No, absolutely definitely not. The EM fields are NOT waves. I have suggested above that light is not a wave. The aether is not a wave carrier.
 Quoting: observation

I'm not sure what you could mean by this. It is a mathematical fact that any continuous function can be expressed as a linear combination of waves (Fourier). Therefore we can describe the electromagnetic field everywhere in the universe as a superposition of waves. I can think of no other phenomenon than light that more clearly satisfies the many criteria we use to describe things as waves. Extremely linear over 20+ orders of magnitude, obeying simple wave equations, etc. When an author says he hears a voice "cracking in over the aether" we understand that the voice had been transferred to radio waves and then picked up with a radio receiver.

The question of "what is a wave" has been debated by many philosophers. If interested I recommend the introduction to Whitham's "Linear and non-linear waves" which is available in the "look inside" preview feature at amazon.com. Light seems to be a prime example
 Quoting: IBEX

PS Electromagnetic fields DO NOT affect photons. Electrons (photon emitters) are affected by electromagnetic fields.
 Quoting: observation

Yes, I think you are referring to the remarkable linearity of the EM field in vacuum. One wave component can pass right over another with no effect on either. However as some others have pointed out there are some interactions such as the Zeeman effect which do affect light. When other charges are considered such as in prisms or other media the propagation can become more nonlinear. Probing the limits of linearity of light in vacuum are one of the only means we have to diagnose the constiuents of the aether, er, electromagnetic space-time vacuum.
 Quoting: IBEX

now i must explain , those questions are from the cern team thinkers as in:
mechanical universe mindset and we have nasa confirming the aether mindset

aether fucks with cerns thinking rockon

none of this has gone public before alien03

A cloud of plasma or “CME” raced away from the blast site at 1100 km/s. The CME is not heading for Earth. It is, however, heading for Mercury and Venus. Click on the arrow to view a movie of the CME’s forecast track:

[link to iswa.gsfc.nasa.gov]

Analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab say the CME will hit Mercury on Nov. 4th around 16:14 UT. NASA’s MESSENGER probe in orbit around Mercury will be monitoring the effects of the impact. If the CME overwhelms Mercury’s relatively weak magnetic field, it could scour material off the planet’s surface creating a temporary atmosphere and adding material to Mercury’s comet-like tail. The CME should hit Venus on Nov. 5th; the gossamer cloud will probably break harmlessly against the top of planet’s ultra-dense atmosphere.

CACTUS CME Details show an angular width of 254 degrees with a peak velocity of nearly 2000 km/s. Wow, that's big and fast. Here's movie although the initial blast came during an all-too-frequent LASCO data gap.

interesting forecast from NOAA

IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is
expected to be unsettled with a chance for active periods for the
first day (04 November). There is also a slight chance for storm
level activity on this day. The increase is expected as a result of
a glancing blow from the CME that occurred on 31 October. Activity
levels are expected to be quiet to unsettled for the second day (05
November) and quiet for the third day (06 November). Note that this
forecast may need to be updated if an earthward directed CME is
observed and associated with todays X-class event.

[link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

there was no CME we seen from the X class event
there was however a backside CME that occurred not to long after the X class flare

CHANCE OF FLARES:
NOAA forecasters have upgraded the chance of X-class solar flares today to 20%. The source would be AR1339, one of the biggest sunspots in many years. The active region rotated over the sun's eastern limb two days ago and now it is turning toward Earth
The flare created waves of ionization in Earth's upper atmosphere, altering the normal propagation of radio waves over Europe and the Americas. In Ireland, the flare's effect was felt even after dark.

If the CME overwhelms Mercury's relatively weak magnetic field, it could scour material off the planet's surface creating a temporary atmosphere and adding material to Mercury's comet-like tail. The CME should hit Venus on Nov. 5th; the gossamer cloud will probably break harmlessly against the top of planet's ultra-dense atmosphere.

In Ireland, the flare's effect was felt even after dark.

indeed lol, i got a visual flash of the epic scene in "knowing" where the solar flare/cme (not sure which it was in movie or would be in real life, i think cme) wiped out EVERYTHING on earth lol

likely not to happen of course
