Anonymous Coward User ID: 1517751 United States 11/30/2011 12:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here ya go Hugh... Sleep Tight meaning: Many years ago beds were made out of a wood frame with ropes stretched taut accross it on which the mattress would sit. The ropes would stretch and knots would loosen and the mattress would sag and become uncomfortable. So, fairly often, the ropes would have to be tightened so sleeping could be comfortable again. Hence the term 'sleep tight' became synonymous with sleeping comfortably and getting a good night's sleep. Now you know way more than you ever wanted to know about the phrase "sleep tight". lol Thanks, I always wondered that. I love information like this. Hence the name shenue, LOL. |

Hugh M Eye User ID: 6309685 United States 11/30/2011 05:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A C3.8 flare erupted at 1364 on the eastern limb and most likely produced this CME seen on SOHO Cor2: [link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov] Presently there's a Long Duration Event (peaking at C3.4) that seems associated with AR11356 on the western limb. [link to halpha.nso.edu] [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] LDEs are often seen to cause CMEs. Wait and see if this flare disturbs those snake-like filaments on the limb. If this area ejects violently it could have geo-effective consequences. Stay tuned. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 5212000 United States 11/30/2011 06:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | from spaceweather: "GROUND CURRENTS IN NORWAY: A solar wind stream is buffeting Earth's magnetic field and this is causing electrical currents to flow in the earth itself at high latitudes. Rob Stammes sends this report from the Polarlightcenter in Lofoten, Norway: "Today, a magnetic disturbance began around 12.00 UTC. The [shaking of Earth's magnetic field] induced a ground current around our observatory: data. This is a good sign that we will see Northern Lights tonight." |
Hugh M Eye User ID: 6309685 United States 11/30/2011 06:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow, check out this H-alpha movie loop from Mauna Kea, HI. I notice on the western limb a filament erupted first and sparked on of those "two-channel flares" near 1356. If you slow down the vid you can see material flying off into space. At the beginning of the loop, on the EASTERN limb, the previous CME disappears. [link to halpha.nso.edu] |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 5212000 United States 11/30/2011 06:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A line of sunspots stretching across the sun's northern hemisphere appears to be an independent sequence of dark cores. A telescope tuned to the red glow of solar hydrogen, however, reveals something different. The sunspots are connected by sinuous filaments of magnetism. The connections suggest an interesting possibility. While each sunspot individually poses little threat for strong solar flares, an instability in one could start a chain reaction involving all, leading to a widespread eruption . Readers with solar telescopes are encouraged to monitor developments." And a link to this: [link to science.nasa.gov] |

Quoting: Hugh M Eye [link to halpha.nso.edu] It's been 2 hours and no updated data from SOHO or STEREO A+B....just when I thought SOHO was on the ball again. Well SDO has another pic of the eruption as it happened: [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] SOHO cor 2 was OK until this CME erupted-in the last image you can see the beginning of shock-wave on the western edge of the occulting disk. Did I mention how much I hate waiting hours for this shit to update. [link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov] I had a dream last night about the "Mother of All CMEs" or "The Kill-shot". The ejection was so dense you could see it from Earth after sundown. Everyone was flabbergasted--but it was only a dream. |

I knew when I posted previously it would activate the GLP effect and....WAALAA!- we have STEREO A checking in. Looks like it may affect Earth. Eruption on the far-side is also sizable and has been ongoing for some time. Earth is toward the left. [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] |

Along with a mosquito net... Sorry if disgusting. Last Edited by Mad Matt on 11/30/2011 08:33 PM O earth, earth, earth hear the word of the Lord. Proverbs 24:17,18 I have CDO, similar to OCD, but the letters are in their proper order, as they should be. |
