I'm amazed to see that there arent 10 threads going on about the X-Flare + CME on GLP.
Maybe people are getting tired of solar events or these events are waring people down so they dont care.

Hi, solar2004, this thread was pinned earlier and should be re-pinned considering some of the usual junk on pg.1. If you're looking to catch up with events, there's a lot of info there. Vote for a pin.

Thread: X Class Solar Flare in progress Max X1.7

Also NIN's blog has good updates.

News from Moscow--Solar Flare May have Doomed Phobos-Grunt Mission

The device may have ended up in a cloud of plasma released during the solar event, and this is the main theory being considered by the commission investigating the probe's technical failure, the source said.

Wow, another snow-blizzard proton storm on SOHO confirmed; though not as intense as the first one. I wonder if this has ever occurred twice in the same week before.

Re: SOLAR WATCH * 312 M & 25 X FLARES starting 3-7-2011 (Updated Daily)
Solar Energetic Particles (SEP) are high-energy particles coming from the Sun which had been first observed in the early 1940s. They consist of protons, electrons and heavy ions with energy ranging from a few tens of keV to GeV (the fastest particles can reach speed up to 80% of the speed of light). They are of particular interest and importance because they can endanger life in outer space (especially particles above 40 MeV). Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs) can originate from two processes: energetization at a solar flare site or by shock waves associated with Coronal Mass Ejection (CMEs). However, only about 1% of the CMEs produce strong SEP events.

SEPs are also of interest because they provide a good sample of solar material. Despite the nuclear fusion occurring in the core, the majority of solar material is representative of the material which formed our solar system. By studying the isotopic composition of SEPs, scientists can obtain an indirect measurement of the material which formed the solar system, and thus learn about its origins.

Two main mechanisms of acceleration are possible: diffusive shock acceleration (DSA, sometimes referred as first-order Fermi acceleration) or shock-drift mechanism. SEPs can be accelerated to energies of several tens of MeV within 5-10 solar radii (0.05% of the Sun-Earth distance) and can reach Earth in a matter of a few hours after a flare or an ejection. This makes prediction and warning of SEP events quite challenging. The seed population and composition of these SEP events is also an active area of research.

40 MeV???

According to the proton flux chart:

We are experiencing a surge in the amount of protons above 50 MeV...

This means that the lives of people in the ISS are endangered?

The data on the proton flux chart adheres to the table Solar Radiation Storms. Right now it is almost reaching S3 levels. Last week we almost made it to S4 levels which was the strongest it has been since 2005.

But that period of Solar max intense activity is expected to be at the lowest level ever, compared to most solar max cycles. As a matter of fact scientist have reported that this solar max cycle will be at 50% less than a normal solar max cycle. Possibly plunging us into a little ice age.

Tell them my friend .. xD

I only believe in my data and what I see with my eyes, we will see already in this year ..

To match deformation have online and from scientist circles ..

All is relative ..

What I believe is that they dont know for this solar maximum what to expect ..

Also I think we entering stronger earthquake activities worldwide and stronger solar storms activity ..

Because our magnetic field weakening we will have more damage or danger for everything on Earth including life form health more extreme weather, earthquakes etc ..

Solar or radiation from space is very unpleasant thing and affects ALL ..

NASA claims astronauts are safe from radiation storm.

"An intense solar flare unleashed the biggest radiation storm in years today (Jan. 23), but astronauts aboard the International Space Station are not in any danger, NASA officials say."

Maybe they borrowed the EPA's technique and raised the "safe levels" of radiation. Either wikipedia is wrong or NASA is lying....probably both, lol.

RADIATION STORM: Accelerated by yesterday's X-flare, energetic protons from the sun are swarming around Earth on Jan. 28th. The radiation storm ranks S2 on NOAA scales, which means this is not a severe storm. Nevertheless, it can still affect spacecraft and satellites at the nuisance level. For instance, this coronagraph image from SOHO is clouded by protons hitting SOHO's onboard digital camera.

The optimum word in your post is "walked"! Glad you are able to do that!

Was quite a big one, NiN. Glad it's not directly facing us. Let's see what happens with the protons now!

protons will go HIGH!
we got updates coming in and posted as fast as we get them!

Having MS, I use a cane sometimes too. When I get down, I remind myself I could be in a wheelchair instead. I sure hope you continue to heal! I'll keep an eye out for that Harry potter cane. Keep in mind that you can easily find some really cool ones, like a black one with orange and yellow flames (might remind you of the fire in a solar flare). Also if you like it feminine you can find a pink one with leapord spots...lol.

Check this out (Hugh too). Here's a little diddy for all those debunkers crying that we've had worse storms and that it's all about the class of the flare.

This is an historical animation of the proton absorption from a major event list. The highest is an X-28 flare from November 4, 2003. Probably an extention of the Holloween storm that our storm from the long duration flare this week was supposed to rival. This is nothing compared to what we experienced this past week:

[link to www.ngdc.noaa.gov]

There is more to view here. Scroll to the bottom of the page:

[link to www.ngdc.noaa.gov]

Not one of these historical animations come close to the proton storm we had this week and all of these are considered "Major Events".
 Quoting: TheOracle

that is the right attitude! :)
i will for sure look for a pink one haha that would be awesome ^^
hope your doing good and not letting the proton storm effect you much
