The optimum word in your post is "walked"! Glad you are able to do that!

Was quite a big one, NiN. Glad it's not directly facing us. Let's see what happens with the protons now!

Having MS, I use a cane sometimes too. When I get down, I remind myself I could be in a wheelchair instead. I sure hope you continue to heal! I'll keep an eye out for that Harry potter cane. Keep in mind that you can easily find some really cool ones, like a black one with orange and yellow flames (might remind you of the fire in a solar flare). Also if you like it feminine you can find a pink one with leapord spots...lol.

Check this out (Hugh too). Here's a little diddy for all those debunkers crying that we've had worse storms and that it's all about the class of the flare.

This is an historical animation of the proton absorption from a major event list. The highest is an X-28 flare from November 4, 2003. Probably an extention of the Holloween storm that our storm from the long duration flare this week was supposed to rival. This is nothing compared to what we experienced this past week:

Not one of these historical animations come close to the proton storm we had this week and all of these are considered "Major Events".

i will for sure look for a pink one haha that would be awesome ^^
hope your doing good and not letting the proton storm effect you much

Hi all,

Mark your calendars; May 20, 2012

A "ring of fire" solar eclipse is coming to the USA this spring. It's the first annular eclipse visible from the contiguous United States in almost 18 years.

Ha-ha! How did I know you would like a pink one? Just kidding. I hope you find it NiN... If you have to use it, might as well fit your style.

CVS Pharmacy usually has these if you have one of those in your area.

Glad the sun gave you a break this weekend, of course with the exception of the ongoing proton storm. However, you might want to stop by this thread and give it some NiN attention:

A Solar Siesta
Jan 30, 2012

The Sun is predicted to “hibernate” during its next cycle in 2020.

A recent press release states that the Sun’s activity will slow to an unprecedented decline in the next ten years. The prediction is based on “…three independent studies of the sun’s insides, surface, and upper atmosphere…” According to the article, the drop in output could initiate climate effects comparable to the Maunder Minimum between 1645 and 1715.

Predictions about how the Sun will behave are reliable only if the interpretation of the data upon which the prediction was made is reliable. As many past Picture of the Day expositions have revealed, however, conventional theories of solar dynamics leave much to be desired. For example, attributing to internal heating the unexpected “weather patterns” recently discovered below the photosphere is like ascribing Earth’s weather patterns to heat escaping from within the Earth. The possibility that weather systems may be externally electrically powered has not occurred to investigators..............................

Hmmmm,
Don't know for sure SW...Neither Proton Flux nor X-Ray
shows any deviation from normal. However, both the Electron
flux and the Boulder/GOES magnetogaphs show deflection at
exacrly the same time...
Hugh, Look'n, Nin....Anyone here to weigh in on this?

Re: SOLAR WATCH * 312 M & 25 X FLARES starting 3-7-2011 (Updated Daily)
Ahhh,
I correct myself. I had just given a passing glance to the 3-day GOES proton flux before running my mouth. Looking carefully at same you'll notice a significant deflection - a sudden decrease - in the proton flux. Remember that the movement of charged particles is a current. Magneric effects arrising from a current actually result from a CHANGE in same. To wit: an acceleration of the particles constituting the current. A simple example is this; there are NO DC transformers, they don't exist. To couple the magnetic field of one coil to another requires a time-varying current, the familiar example being an AC driven coil.
Whew!, what does all that mean? Just this - an acceleration of a charged particle produces exactly an equivalent effect to a deceleration of same but of opposite magnitude/polarity. Here, a sudden decrease in the proton/electron flux is the EXACT equivalent of a net change in the "current" we are experiancing here on Earth, as such we see both GOES and Boulder deflecting accordingly. Whether this is a part of the effects from the CME ejected from the X-flare previous IS likely given the timing between then and now.

well, tom and i talked about that some
hard to say really
but it sure would have been very high
personaly i believe higher than a X20
this, mainly because of the size of 1402 combined with the event this flare created while on the far western limb
i suggest to keep an eye on the ACE data and/or nict to see if the Bz flips and goes in the - negative
if it does, we could see a geomagnetic storm out of this
but as it is right now, the nict looks the way it does because of the winds combined with the density
it's not to bad right now
