Most of our space-based assets are being retarded today (NASA's weekend PT help), so it may be awhile before we see what kind of CME, if any, resulted from this event. I'm exhausted just from watching that damn graph for 90 minutes, LOL.

Anyway, a ground-based telescope at Udaipur Observatory caught the flare in the H-alpha wavelength.

I find conflicting info regarding the travel time from sun to earth atmosphere, anywhere from 9mins to 9hrs to a couple of days, can anyone clear this up for me thanks.

Google is your friend here, earth is approximately 92935700 miles from the sun (on average and this is our scientific best guess, we can not accurately measure the distance as yet!) and the speed of light is approximately 186000 miles per second. This means on average our best guess is that at the speed of light, light will get from the sun to the earth in about 8-9 minutes. However, the sun spits out more than just light during solar flairs (i.e. Coronal Mass Ejections), with these particles being denser (i.e. heavier) and thus slower than light to travel. We don't really have any way to accurately measure exactly what type of particles are being blasted from the sun to earth let alone their density. However we do notice particle flows often don't arrive at the same time as light from a flair as it has taken longer than the 9 minutes or so light would have taken to get to earth. Sometimes the particles can be quite dense and take days to arrive at earths atmosphere. Also, just because we can measure something hitting the earths atmosphere it doesn't mean it has come from the sun, there is a lot we still do not know about space so it helps to keep an open mind. All of this is easily found on Google so go look around for more info.

I noticed that and posted back when this flare started. I called it "sympathetic flaring" of 1423 & 1428. It was very evident on the H-alpha movie loop.

Wow, you could already see the CME at 3:36. The flare had just hit the M-level then. So the whole time we were watching that graph crawl up from M1 to X1 the CME was already well on its way into space.

- we have some sort of a channel eruption going on around the very center top section (no sunspot region)

X-ray flux is still above M1 level. I think I read somewhere that LDEs release more energy en toto than a short flare many times stronger. This is a very long X-ray event.

there is a lot of issues a CME can cause, causing issues with Satellites is just one of them
i will try to dig up some info on this for you in the morning
its hard to gove a ETA at this time, because were still waiting on the CME ejection speed
we need that to calculate how fast its moving to come up with arrival time
at 1st glance, i would put the estimated arrival time at earlie, to mid day on March 8th

We may have witnessed something very telling. Perhaps deep inside the sun's core, the source of these strong magnetic fields are somehow connected; even over these vast distances. Like sprouting flowers, they're part of the same stem and root system. Sometimes the line between metaphysics and plain-old-physics gets blurred.

tomasgod and i have talked about this many times, as well as watched multiple events BEFORE they took place, watching the magnetic connections, then the even would hit and we knew it was innerconnected
you can watch arks between areas, but we can also watch solar surface "lightning" go thousands of KM across the solar surface causing many small events
most of the small events are not talked about because they are not huge "wow" events
SDO is the best tool for watching this
and as the solar max comes at us, we will see this more and more i believe

im also believe this is something that happens each time solar max comes into view, but this is the 1st time we get to watch this, thanks to all the great guys over at SDO!
i can only count a few times that we did not have current SDO image to watch events
we cant say that about STEREO or SOHO
thats for sure :/

Full update with images-

the LDE flare is still in progress at this time
dropping slowly, the Xray flux is now at a C7.4
this LDE has been going on for around 3 1/2 hrs so far
there is a CME, it is at least partialy earth directed
ETA around early, mid day March 8th
more data needed to be sure on that though
kk, on that note, its 2am here and i need sleep
i will get on the sek im up to update with any new info that has come in while i was sleeping.
along with any new events that may have taken place
