"There are many theories about how the ribbon is created, and we don't understand exactly what we're seeing but it seems to be telling us something about how the local galactic magnetic field interacts with the heliosphere." Additional evidence for that interaction was the discovery of a "tail" of emissions in the underlying boundary landscape, which is apparently deflected in the direction of the galactic magnetic field as the ribbon seems to indicate. "This galactic magnetic field may be a missing key to understanding how the heliosphere protects the solar system from galactic cosmic rays,"s "Prior to IBEX, most scientists believed that the global boundaries of our solar system were controlled mainly by the motion of our solar system through the galaxy and the solar wind, an extremely fast flow of electrically charged matter that flows out from the Sun. The IBEX maps reveal the galactic magnetic field is also a critical part of the Sun's interaction with the galaxy." [link to www.sciencedaily.com] This new discovery that is "not explained by any current model" and "will require the textbooks to be rewritten," is powerful evidence in favor of the Electric Sun model since the bright band is controlled by the galactic magnetic field and not the Sun. The overall shape seems to conform to the Z-pinch mechanism and not the mechanical picture of the Sun plowing through the interstellar medium. . Wal Thornhill It is a dynamic Z Pinch occurring between two double layers. it is double layers and z pinch Fascinating isn't it? The results, reported as a bright, winding ribbon of unknown origin which bisects the maps, have taken researchers by surprise. This whole process is having a big affect on our solar system to be sure. I think a lot of what we see going on with our Sun, and the Earth, as well as the other planets within our solar system has a lot to do with that external source of perturbation. Solar Update - Several C-Class flares have taken place in the past 24 hours around Sunspots 1176 and 1183. The chances for stronger flares are diminishing however as these regions are not magnetically complex. Sunspot group 1176 is approaching the western limb. The solar wind has approached 500 km/s and this could stir up minor geomagnetic activity at high latitudes. There's hope or not isn't the question, there is only the road |
