Ok just beat me with a stick if I've missed it discussed here, but when did this huge CME happen?

 Quoting: shenue

Hi, Shenue, I posted pics of it last night. There is some dispute about the origins however...either a filament eruption in the NE or a far-side flare from 1429.

Another CME recently from the southwestern limb.

This is a solar thread that is active when there is a lot of solar activity. If you are looking for entertainment get off your ass and go do something.

Well I've never paid much attention to HAARP until nerdrage88sasr brought it here, is this something new they they are doing or is it typical to shut down for such small events ???

Granted, it's unsettled geomagnetically out there, but it certainly isn't "baking" anything to any great extent ...lol.

Although there was a large S/F and CME from old Sunspot Region 1429 that contributed to the halo CME there was also a filament eruption from the NE limb immediatly after, followed by a C5.3 flare the 27th @02:50 UTC with an associated CME (seen on SDO) from Sunspot Region 1444. We can expect this latter CME to be geoeffective. NASA and NOAA are not mentioning or giving any calculations for it, but it was very evident on SDO. Since we have no plane of sky ejection data, a rough guess would be that we can expect to see it arrive somewhere between tonight around 11:00 EDT through tomorrow afternoon.

hi Good Morning TS66,

Here we can see the CME as it is approaching Earth. It is the large hump between Mercury and Earth on this image from Stereo A HI2. Earth and Mars are very close together right now, so that's why they are written on top of each other and are hard to distinguish between.

hi Morning Hugh! Good to see you as well.

There were actually 4 in rapid succession. There was a CME associated with a large flare off the E limb from old Region 1429 at approx 2012 Mar 26 @ 22:49 UTC with a type II and IV radio sweep. This was followed immediatley by a filament ejection from the NE limb @23:58 UTC. Less then 3 hours later @ 2:50 UTC March 27, there was a large Earth directed CME ejected from Region 1444 during a C5.3 Sf, and then @ 12:59 UTC there was an ejection from near Region 1445. The majority of the material from 1429 is not Earth directed and the majority of the material from the filament looks to have gone north of the polar cap. If you watch the SDO images from 2:57 untill it blacks out around 06:28 UT on the 27th you will see all the material being ejected from Region 1444.

These are great for showing the separation between these two major events. The first one shows the CME from old region 1429 off the E limb, the filament ejection is so close to the same time that it gets caught up with this image. The second one shows the CME from Region 1444. It takes about 30 min to an hour for the CME to appear from around the disk depending on the ejection speed. As you can see the C5.3 flare from region 1444 started at 2:50 UTC on the 27th.

The CME shows up here on Cactus at 3:36 UTC, pushing up to the right of center from around the occulting disk, not from the NE. #2 [link to www.sidc.oma.be]

An Earth-directed CME detected from the southern solar hemisphere. It may be from a two-ribbon eruption southeast of AR1445. There's been very few flares and the largest was a C1.1 from 1444 in the north. There are many small filaments (and a few big ones) on the visible disk, so it'll take some time to confirm the source of this CME. However, it does seem well-positioned to be geo-effective.

Triple-header CME seen on STEREO Behind. As you all know, Earth is to the right.

The Earth-side CME may have come from an eruption seen here at the SE edge of active region 1445. Still waiting for STEREO A and SOHO to update.
