another good high res movie
filament from 1450
[link to spaceweather.com]

The movie shows a filament connected to sunspot AR1450 rising up and snapping. In the aftermath of the eruption, an arcade of hot-glowing magnetic loops forms over the blast site as a "canyon of fire" illuminates the empty filament channel

i love a good "canyon of fire"!

The southern part of 1450's filament channel is back in action again. And some activity in the NE from one of the new regions rolling into town... don't know if it's been named yet.

[link to halpha.nso.edu]

Proton increase around 6:00... from the northern part of '50's channel eruption an hour or two prior?

Thinking about it. Not sure how much time I can put into being here in the near future.

Movie/ 2012-04-07 05:00 to now/ gold

Two faint but coherent cross-equatorial loops connecting SS1451 and SS1453 are seen exiting stage right. Probably more visible now without having the sun as a backdrop, so I'm guessing they may have been "puffing" out loops since their formation. Like I said yesteday, don't know if this is an important feature. Looked for info, haven't found anything yet. Maybe the pros here might have some (cough cough). Or maybe it's just no big deal. Just rambling...

A very beautiful symmetry at the core of this filament channel eruption. I believe this was the heart of the Behemoth. If you recall when 1429 was blasting us with X's and M's, this filament was already forming inside the active region. I was amazed it survived all of those big CMEs for a full rotation.

This image was just prior to the channel flare-

This shows the magnetic symmetry at the crux of the large filament-

Wow, the shock wave went outward along both north and south legs of that filament. The H-alpha movie shows an enormous expanse of solar real-estate was affected...about 25% of the Sun's face. This event seems to be still in motion!

Yep,the fat southern end has left the building and the northern end ready to follow soon. Expect a nice CME from our 60 degree west "sweet spot".

SDO has some great vid sequences. Red is right in your face. Bronze shows a transient coronal hole at the blast site like Hugh was talking about the other day.

[link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

But the newest (yep another one) from SDO lmsal rocks. Whole quadrant. Channel eruption. Channel flow. CME launch. Spark from 1450. Color is cool but the detail in B&W... wow.

Welcome aboard, Varve!cheers They were awesome movies there. STEREO Behind is, well, er... behind. Also CMEs take slightly longer to appear on STEREO B because the occulting disk looks bigger in comparison to the sun's size (I think its orbit is further out than A's).

As IWTB pointed out in his fabulous video, another big filament eruption from the south far-side.
