Thanks a jillion, T-Bar! Great soundtrack as well! I find it telling that spaceweather.com never mentions mistakes, glitches or severe server outages at NASA or NOAA. I'm pretty sure everything will be hunky-dory when the adults return on Monday morning. I hope we see an X10 in the meantime, LOL.

It looks like this morning's C5.4 at ~7:16 from 1513 was actually a double tap. The initial flare is followed by a second ~7 minutes later, slightly to the south. The GOES chart at the top shows a tiny blip into the C range at that time.

Hidden Portals in Earth’s Magnetic Field
A favorite theme of science fiction is “the portal”–an extraordinary opening in space or time that connects travelers to distant realms. A good portal is a shortcut, a guide, a door into the unknown. If only they actually existed….
It turns out that they do, sort of, and a NASA-funded researcher at the University of Iowa has figured out how to find them.
“We call them X-points or electron diffusion regions,” explains plasma physicist Jack Scudder of the University of Iowa. “They’re places where the magnetic field of Earth connects to the magnetic field of the Sun, creating an uninterrupted path leading from our own planet to the sun’s atmosphere 93 million miles away.”
