Ok, just got caught up on reading all the pages I missed, and with all the solar stuff going on, all I can think about is the damn amaretto cheesecake that Nin is getting, lucky woman! Lol. I just love amaretto anything!

Anyway, going to stay up and watch & wait for the show. So nice to see everyone here and posting, feels like a little solar family. Lol.
 Quoting: Vesper33

Hey, when you're an AC and you can't prove if you've been supporting a thread for a year or a week, you use words like chocolate and amaretto to get the point across lol

Although seriously, if the shit does hit the fan, and we end up as Mad Max style nomads, the first question I'm going to ask strangers is if they were ever on a website that goes by the name GLP. I have a feeling a good number of survivors will say yes, and if any of them had spent their free time here educating and informing perfect strangers, and thus directly contributing to my long term survival, they would have a friend for life.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19297584

interesting perspective.

could be a bit like playing the lottery

depending on which GLPer you run into, asking that question could lead to you being someones dinner!

The Learmonth H-alpha movie show many areas sparking across the 1520/21 regions. It may be building up to another strong LDE.

Hey Hugh,..what is the lag time on this sensory data we are monitoring now?

A few min?

GONG has a network of scopes around the world to keep a constant up-to-the-minute watch on the Sun (weather permitting). Learmonth in Australia is live now and updates every few minutes. Here's the page w/all locations. The green ones are "live" and there's a time-stamp. They also offer a quick-view movie (every fourth frame) or a full movie. It's a handy tool for watching filaments and getting immediate looks at flare locations.

This is a very wrong action by this sunspot. Polarity being what it is the magnetism isn't going to coerce this to humble itself. this SS should rise up and release energy , with its makeup it isn't doing this its just half assing it

That delta region still has polarity kicking it should blow, when given rise to momentum the least it should do is a high level M, MId C is crap!

I have not been studying charts of solar data very long. I have, however, been studying charts of market data for many years such as commodities, equities and various indexes. I wonder if solar data follows similiar technical patterns such as Fibanachi Retracements, Head and Shoulders Breakouts and Double and Triple Top/Bottoms for example.

Do any of you solar veterans have any experience with technical analysis of financial instruments? Just wondering.

This stuff is addicting....whoever said that is spot on. My wife thinks I am nuts for staring at an x-ray flux graph all Friday night.

The x-ray flux we’re interested in is measured in the 1 to 8 Angstrom range (that is the wavelength) and is the red line on the graph below (the blue line is the 0.5 to 4 Angstrom range, x-rays of a shorter wavelength)

I think the GOES 15 detectors measure 2 types of X-rays. The blue line measures frequencies of 0.5-4.0 angstrom wavelengths and the red line shows frequencies of 1.0-8.0 angstrom wavelengths. If I'm wrong, Tom or NIN will correct me. I didn't have time to research this so I cheated and read it off the side of the graph, haha.
