Looks like a nice fire in the stove. Thanks OP. I saw that stepwise increase where the X-Ray level does not go back to baseline at the last Max.

I uploaded a video of all four of the last CMEs over the past two days.

Puts me in a total state of awe! I dont' understand...the x-class we had a week or so ago didn't look as bad as these. What is making these so powerful looking and lasting so long in length? The last one just seemed to float forever above that M-class line. I was waiting for it to shoot up to an X.

I wonder if there is not any X-class flares yet as the sunspots are not building up enough energy with the constant M-class flares?

LaViolette's research suggests that the Sun also became highly active as dust and gas falling onto its surface induced extreme flaring activity. Together with the radiation influx from the Sun's dust cocoon, this caused the Sun's corona and photosphere to inflate, much as is observed today in dust-choked stars called "T Tauri stars." These various solar effects caused atmospheric warming and inversion conditions that facilitated glacial growth which brought on ice age conditions. On occasions when the solar radiation influx to the Earth became particularly high, the ice age climate warmed, initiating episodes of rapid glacial melting and continental flooding. There is evidence that one particularly tragic solar flare event occurred around 12,900 years ago during a period when the Sun was particularly active. This involved the release of an immense coronal mass ejection which engulfed the Earth and induced a mass animal extinction."

Last night i could not help but wonder how i would feel if a bad X hit while i was sleeping and i woke to no more electric
I would not miss electric too much, but i would miss the friends i have here on GLP and miss exchanging ideas and knowledge

try giving her a bath so that the water can neutralize the protons. Then a big glass of cold water or watered down juice when she gets out. same when your really feeing the effects/

NiNzrez, this thread has really attracted some very intellegent and kind minded people, so I can understand what you are saying. It would be sad not to be able to come here occasionally and talk to a few people.

I'm really grateful that a few have posted some really great stuff on your thread. It really helps me to be able to read these and feel like I am not the only one who wants to understand the sun.

Was wondering if you or others have any plans in the case of a big solar event. I'm caught between not wanting to be a sun freak and doing nothing. I just have a small amount of food stored, but no plans on where to go if a big event occured.

I'm still thinking about fluffy and the effects it may be having in reference to solar flares, especially after that very long one today winded one today.

The proton theory and children seems like it is a bigger deal than I even thought. My little one threw two 30 minute tantrums today, complete with kicking and screaming, very uncharacteristic when it is just the two of us. Looking at the proton chart, it seems to be staying up there today. Wonder what it would be like if it was worse than that.

My plans for the big flare are very basic and very primitive. Due to my money situation I'm not able to prepare as people should. My years of being a B rate horror movie buff is paying off in this case because i know that the people that try to leave where they are at during a state of emergency are always the 1st to go. I plan on staying right where i am and I'm ready for this big X whenever it wants to come.
I think of that fluffy cloud a lot too as well as a lot of other things SickScent talks about
I get lost in his blog a lot, but i call it a damn vortex haha cause its soo hard to get out once your in

It is good to see there are a lot of people who have interest in things such as this and make it a note to study up on whats going on in the world. Since the sun controls most of our weather. If people just took the time such as the people on GLP do they would get the reason as to why the earth is going through such dramatic changes such as the sun is doing.

Now I'm off to get caught up on all the news and other things going on :)

for anyone interested, the space shuttle re enters orbit and lands today
This is VERY important because when it punches through the ionosphere it will create a hole that could take days to close
This hole thats being created by the shuttle right now, will be wide open just in time for our geomagnetic storm.
Allowing whatever winds/particles that come with these CME's to come right on in

how big of a hole does it make? is it really big enough to make a differrence? where will the hole be when the Cme hits later today?
I ask because I really have no idea..

The size of the hole all depends on conditions on the area at the time. ANY hole in our shields is cause for concern, even when not in a geomagnetic storm
and yes, the holes take up to days or sometimes longed to heal and close back up

I can tell you guys that the Sun back here in South Africa has been hot as hell.

Temperatures of around 35 degrees celcius (pretty normal for this time of the year). After being in the sun for 10 to 20
mintes and then going back inside there's tingling sensation on my arms. Also a lot of uncharacteristic yawning in the middle of the day.No I don't have a hangover and I had enough sleep.

I spend a lot of time on the road every day, and this extra kick from the sun is not normal.

It's like the sun had a red bull or something.
