Why would it be silly to assume Earthquakes have to do with the earth's magenetic feild... maybe not all of them... But some...

its all a part of very complicated physics. There are just so many factors that you have to enter into the equation and some of the pieces to the mathematical equation are still missing
We are still but baby's when it comes to understanding the universe and how events in space effect earth as well as humans

That is a fascinating and immediate cause and effect(pr -global d abs.), isn't it!

At work so can't really research but what does everyone think about the activity in Greece. Seems like it has picked up in frequency also. Seems to be some EQ activity in some strange places

now im watching for quakes to happen due to this, just like it did with the Japan quake

actually i noticed the PCA event starting prior to the LDE flare, and the protons also high prior, just sayin..

If you're right, then they'll probably take that handy little chart offline as well.

Bz is low now, w/o NICT it is hard to know what's happenin in the Msphere, but I suppose the spidery thing is quite wide open now..

For a good example of the cause and effect relationship between flares and the global d absorbtion rate you can watch this archived absorbtion slide from November 4, 2003. This was during an X28 flare. Keep an eye on the flux in the bottom right hand corner of animation during saturation.

Was there an earlier solar event that hit earth that i missed?
the Xray flux started going up very slow at around the 13:00 mark, then started going up a bit faster
i watched the data during this time and it seemd to match to me.

the last data for it came in at 16:01 so same event that is continuing, The protons would have to be from the same event unless there was a prior solar event that headed earths way

HERE COMES TROUBLE? A big sunspot is emerging over the sun's southeastern limb, and it is crackling with activity. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded a surge of extreme ultraviolet radiation from the sunspot's magnetic canopy on March 21st:

This appears to be the return of old sunspot 1165, last seen in early March when it formed on the sun's southwestern limb. Since then it has been transiting the far side of the sun, apparently growing in size and restlessness. The potential for trouble will become more clear in the hours ahead as the active region emerges in full. Stay tuned.

we have low winds, low density
but the Bz and By are south
so the magnetosphere is wide open for whatever does hit us right now

Anyone know how long it will take for the earth to be in the line of fire? The article makes the situation sound somewhat dire.

Minor update added at 15:35 UTC on March 21: Old region 11165 has rotated partly into view at the southeast limb with a large spot currently visible, see this high resolution image. The background x-ray flux is increasing. New region S912 has emerged in the northeast quadrant. Proton flux levels have increased today but have so far not reached event threshold.

Minor update added at 19:10 UTC: The region at the southeast limb is displaying more spots and appears to be very complex. A major flare is possible. Although it is quite unusual for a region at the east limb to cause proton events, this region could be capable of that. Otherwise region 11175 has developed quickly and is close to forming a magnetic delta structure in the trailing spot section. Both polarites have penumbra. Here's a close-up of the southeast limb:

When was the last flare that slowly inclined? I have a suspicious theory.
