I watched it when it happened! I put one of the very first images of it from the Stereo website on page 58 for you guys. When there are flares this is one of the tools that I use to see if there is an associated CME. I have linked to this site many times.

If you do not visit this site or are not used to it... start.

[link to stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov]

To see this for yourself...go to the above link.

under telescopes choose Stereo A core 2

for resolution choose 512..anything above that is reduced to 512 anyway for movies.

under display choose slideshow.....otherwise you will get all of the movie frames one by one in a long list.

for date choose start date 20110326 end date 20110326

hit search.

to look from the satellite that is on the other side of the sun from stereo A....Stereo B..choose the stereo B.

EUVI 195
Core 1
Core2
HI1
HI2
are all working now.

EUVI 171, 284, and 304 work from time to time but are not working now.
 Quoting: tomasgod1

That really helped, now I know where the sats are and how to use them, I'd been avoiding that lesson depending on you guys to find the best pics. Lucky time to learn it now that Stereo A and B are on almost opposite sides of the sun..

and finding how unreliable the gov't "experts" are at reporting..

I watched that backside flare from Kevin's site and realized that it was not the one from the 25th actually the 26th. I went to SOHO where he got it from and found it. It was from the 21st!

SOHO posted it as their "pic of the week"

Up top of the thumbnail it says.
Back-sided CME event (March 25, 2011)

Then in the description of the video...it says.
"The STEREO (Ahead) spacecraft caught this bright, substantial coronal mass ejection blast that emerged from the far side of the Sun, out of direct view from Earth (Mar. 21, 2011). Because it was from the far side (from Earth perspective), none of the ejected particle cloud was headed towards Earth. When that active region rotates around again, we?ll see if its potential power for generating solar storms remains as strong."

[link to sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov]

SOOOO..I went to the Stereo site and verified it. Yup indeed that one was the one from the 21st! Stereo A Core 2.

What kind of shenanigans are they trying to pull.
 Quoting: tomasgod1

The chimps are either underpaid or overworked, or trying to pull something.. Great catch we should sue them for misrepresentation of data..

Thanks for all your hard work --- heard you were
a little under the weather... Hoping you are now all-good

What works for me is 1/2 teaspoon or 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 4 to 6oz of water 3x or 4 xa day and all is good within 12-18hrs---I also add 2 table spoons of lemon juice to give a boost to work quickly. so 2 a day with NO lemon-juice and twice (2) with lemon juice
Try it sometime. Works marvelously for me

We had x-flare i think last Feb 15th, nothing happened. Another x-flare March 10th and bing was the 9m Japan earthquake. Are we looking at a big one here or is it just slightly above normal?

SDF Number 089 Issued at 2200Z on 30 Mar 2011

IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 29/2100Z to 30/2100Z: Solar activity remained at low levels. Isolated B- and C-class flares were observed from Region 1176 (S17W37) and Region 1183 (N15E27). Region 1176 showed magnetic simplification and was classified as an Fso group with a beta magnetic structure. Region 1183 showed a minor increase in spot count and area and was classified as an Eai group with a beta magnetic structure. Two filaments disappeared during the period. The first was 9 degrees in
extent, centered near N48E16, and disappeared early in the period. The second was 7 degrees in extent, centered near S27E21, and disappeared around mid-period. There was no significant CME activity associated with either disappearance. A back-sided partial-halo CME was observed early in the period, first visible in SOHO/LASCO C2 images at 29/2024Z, with an estimated plane-of-sky velocity of 1075
km/sec. The source of the CME was an active region about a day beyond the northeast limb.
No new regions were numbered.

IB. Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be low during the period (31 March - 02 April) with a chance for moderate activity (isolated M-class).

IIA. Geophysical Activity Summary 29/2100Z to 30/2100Z:
Geomagnetic activity was at quiet to active levels. An active period was observed during 30/0000 - 0300Z, followed by quiet levels for the rest of the period. A geomagnetic sudden impulse (SI) was observed at 30/0018Z (12 nT, as measured by the Boulder USGS magnetometer). ACE solar wind data indicated the increased activity was associated with a period of southward IMF Bz (maximum deflection
-8 nT at 29/2306Z) combined with increased IMF Bt (peak 15 nT at 29/2359Z).

IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast: Geomagnetic activity is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels during days 1 - 2 (31 March - 01 April) with a chance for brief active levels due to recurrent coronal hole high-speed stream effects. Activity is expected to decrease to quiet levels on day 3 (02 April) as coronal hole effects subside.

III. Event Probabilities 31 Mar-02 Apr
Class M 40/40/40
Class X 05/05/05
Proton 05/05/05

It appears that NICT updates may have halted again. On another note, any thoughts on the reporters (and now Judge Judy) breaking into fits of babbling while on the air? NIN, you've got a thread on the animal die-offs. Perhaps this gibberish bug is connected -- perhaps through magnetic anomolies, HAARP tampering, solar effects? Definitely strange times we're living in.

On Saturday, August 13, 1831, residents along the entire Eastern Seaboard of the United States awoke that morning to a sun that seemed to be in the last stages of its extinction. As it dimmed remarkably, it grew so pale that 'it could be looked at directly.' Then changing hues, it went from green to blue to white. Finally, a black spot appeared on its surface 'like a black hand.' In Virginia and elsewhere, it was a seen as an omen of some earth-shaking deed. Alarm gripped residents from South Carolina to New York. To those on Manhattan Island, the sky seemed ablaze, and the whole of Newark appeared on fire."

After seeing a halo around the sun on August 13, 1831, Turner believed this to be a sign from God to begin the revolt.

i saw your comment on the fiji quake thread
i think your right
yesterday we seen the effects of the magnetotail northward IFM from the CME we had the day before
I am thinking this is what has onset todays quakes
this would also make compasses go off direction

The steady-state magnetospheric configuration un-der northward IMF conditions is of great interest, mainly because such configurations represent a “groundstate” of the otherwise highly dynamic magnetosphere, although long periods of due northward IMF withsteady magnetic field magnitude are extremely rare.Furthermore, the simpler (but not simple!) magne-tospheric topology and convection pattern help us tounderstand the fundamental interplay between magne-tospheric regions (including the ionosphere).

what a shot
lots of plasma in that one

also on another thread, you asked
"so, a WALNUT magnetosphere top-left image is GOOD?

and the way it is not, split and ripped (with a lot of negative Bz) is BAD?"

bad is not a word for it
you watch the Bz
north (green) bounces off, south (red) connects
now you need to see "what" is bouncing off or connecting
to find this out, you look at the speed and density in the chart directly above the Bz
so look right now, the Bz is south and connecting, but the speed is very low and density is about nothing
now even though the Bz is south and connecting, there is really nothing in the speed and density that is connecting
so not bad

now, when you see the Bz south, and then you see the speed and density rise.. THAT is when you will see things get interesting on the nict and that is when we get a geomagnetic storm
:)

OE
i saw your comment on the fiji quake thread
i think your right
yesterday we seen the effects of the magnetotail northward IFM from the CME we had the day before
I am thinking this is what has onset todays quakes
this would also make compasses go off direction

Hi Nin,
Yeah I've been playin around the pinned threads, they always have the best jokes..

That Msphere activity yesterday could easily have triggered the Fiji eq, in fact I'm suprised we didn't see anything bigger, yet..

I'll go check out your new thread on the Msphere now..
There's hope or not isn't the question, there is only the road
