SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)

Arter closer observation on EVE SAM, it looks like this flare came from the yet to be numberd sister spot next to Region 1226.

So It looks to me like this is earth directed (the cme) and is 1126 on the 60 degree mark or what? What can we expect??

they both are shooting far to the left of earth, not a direct hit and probably total misses imo..
i think the 60 degree mark only works on the other W side. Tgod can confirm whether that connection works on E -60 also. i've only seen it happen once and it was from the other side..

I'm a visual person, and I "see" this heating the Earths core, which makes increased earthquake and volcanic activity complete sense, not too mention ocean floor vents opening up. Tell you what else crosses my mind, Newtons Law of motion, "To every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction". The opposite of what is happening now, an Ice Age.

shows a radio event, type II and type IV alerts current.

still got a high k4 and high k5 sudden impulse geomag alert, persistant.

Was worried about [link to www2.nict.go.jp] Over the last few hours, the temp, dense and bz,s and by's had all stayed at one level.. strange. but they're moving again now. Pressure still high red and white. But with what you're saying that these m's and high c's are earthbound, we will see more activity, not less on the mag over the next few days. Also, of course, watching for an increase in e/quake activity due to this as well over the next few days.

Our "Foot Point" location is currently next Region 1224. for this reason we do have a proximity alert, but not for Region 1126.

Watching solarsoft, [link to www.lmsal.com] and the second pic of the live sun showed a strange line coming off the just combined 1227 and 1226 spots! Very strange?? Saw similar on another solar thread last week, but that one when upwards.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) observed a “remarkable increase” in the number of volcanic earthquakes around Taal Volcano with 115 tremors during its 24-hour observation period.

Out of the 115 earthquakes detected from 8 a.m. last Sunday until 8 a.m. Monday, 12 were felt with intensities that ranged from 1 to 4 and accompanied by rumbling sounds, Phivolcs reported.

does our foot point location change on the visible disk or is it always right there?
is it just longditude of 60 or it has to be at the same latitude also?

Solar Update - Solar activity continues at moderate levels with multiple C-Class flares and the odd M-Class flare taking place mostly around Sunspots 1226 and 1227. Continue to monitor the Solar X-Rays for further activity. These regions continue to rotate into a more geoeffective position and any flares at this point could generate an earth directed Coronal Mass Ejection (CME).

Haha I forgot all about the Solar Flares it's the start of the 11 year cycle too.

oooo and i was watching "Universe" on netflix
the 1st episode is about the sun
some NASA guy said that they put their satellites into "Hibernation mode" or Safe Mode when they see any solar activity that could possibly damage the satellite systems and render them useless

I got this article about it
"Much of the damage can be mitigated if managers know a storm is coming. Putting satellites in 'safe mode' and disconnecting transformers can protect these assets from damaging electrical surges. Preventative action, however, requires accurate forecasting—a job that has been assigned to NOAA."

Now we know why we loose data feeds when we see major solar events that we want to monitor!
But this would imply that they believe these recent events are more dangerous than they are letting on

I don't know why they will not make the site work with ie. My favorite laptop crapped out and I have been trying to get everything over to another. I had to load GChrome on this as well just for that site. The foot point location changes continually. There is a date box at the bottom of the app and you can look at previous dates to get an idea of the movement or our foot point location around the solar disk. For a mental visual, picture a long wire connecting the earth to the sun at the foot point location. In this case the "wire" is invisible and magnetic. When our location is near an active region then there is a "proximity alert". During a CME from a region near this attached line, protons, electrons, and some of the heavier charged elements are able to travel down this line at an accelerated rate to the earth, even if the region was not facing or directed towards earth.

Awesome movie Nin. What are those tubes called that form on the surface. I see at least three of them in that movie.

I know they can cause quite a flare when they collapse, so be ready. Especially if the two at the top join ends like they seem to want to do.

CME activity - In the latest Lasco movies you can see numerous Coronal Mass Ejections billowing away from the sun. Most of these are not earth directed, however a few of them may partially be earth directed. Click HERE to download movie.

Sunspot 1222 which is located towards the northwest limb did show some growth on Sunday, but will soon rotate onto the limb and out of direct earth view. Another new sunspot now numbered 1229 formed between Sunspots 1225 and 1228 also located in the north.

strange how the line moves around like that, i assume if the spot and cme was in the foot point it would also have a more profound mag effect, taking the shortcut and finding little resistance/dilution along the way. that last one that jumped the line was stronger than expected, besides being much earlier..

They are called filaments. Sometimes when large filaments collapse they can cause hyder flares. I believe this is what you were referring to. :)
