August 6, 2011 - More normal conditions have returned, now that the solar wind has calmed since early today. At the Sun, Regions 1261 and1263 could still erupt before rotating off the disk. Forecasters are watching those.

I had to comment because this is such an oddity for me. I got the most insane burst of energy today, like I was on crack or something and I promise I totally wasn't. I was very edgy and jittery earlier and went on to shampoo carpets and dance around the room like I was at a club while doing so, then proceeded to jump on my exercise gadgets at midnight and workout and then on to dance some more. The reason I claim this as such an oddity is that I have Primary Biliary Cirrhosis and Scleroderma which both leave me struggling to find energy to get either or accomplished most days and then leave me utterly exhausted upon finishing. It is now 4:44am and I have not been to sleep yet. I do have extremely blurred vision right now, I'm sure due to my eyes wondering WTF is going on. I'm not really tired though. Anyway, just strange to me and had to post.

very very odd ... we have here in local news the same story ... 3-4 days later than it happened ... saying it will happen soon ... they are stupid ? or ...

Why are they saying a third is coming? I thought the third cme hit Saturday? but they are saying sometime this week. Would this be the m9 flare or are they all wrong? Tell me

Honestly I thought I counted 4 to begin with and posted that Friday on another thread. I thought they must have all combined or that one (flare) wasn't a CME .. I counted one on August 1, 2 on Auguest 2nd, and the biggest one on August 3 . Now I'm totally confused :(

What is your guess ? What do you supose they will do ? and when ? today, tommorow, this week ?

I have a basic question, I hope somebody can answer on this thread.


We have solar maximum every 11 years, so why this solar maximum is important enough to warrant a warning/caution in the media and also here on GLP?

or is this the same with all solar maximums? that threat is always there, now people are combining it with 2011-12 doomsday scenario

or something is fundamentally different this time?

I don't think there is any possible way the third one didn't hit us. That thing was traveling way too fast to be lollygagging around until this week.

Personally, I call bullshit on them saying it hasn't happened yet. But, I am no expert. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. Unless a CME was released we don't know about.

I googled this and found out it's a form of radiation.
radiation hazard for astronauts...passengers and crew in high flying aircraft...navagation position errors...

Also the high speed stream has really picked up.

Any thoughts?

I think its not certain. I think they prepare stories like this just in case they need to pull the plug on the financial markets if things get out of hand.

Question you should be asking is where did all the money go... all the new hidden technology and all the underground preparation costs allot of money yes???

Storms are brewing about 93 million miles (150 million kilometers) away, and if one of them reaches Earth, it could knock out communications, scramble GPS, and leave thousands without power for weeks to months.

The tempest is what's known as a solar storm, a flurry of charged particles that erupts from the sun. Under the right conditions, solar storms can create extra electrical currents in Earth's magnetosphere—the region around the planet controlled by our magnetic field.

The electrical power grid is particularly vulnerable to these extra currents, which can infiltrate high-voltage transmission lines, causing transformers to overheat and possibly burn out.

"The concern is if the electric grid lost a number of transformers during a single storm, replacing them would be difficult and time-consuming," said Rich Lordan, senior technical executive for power delivery and utilization at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

"These power transformers are very big devices, and the lead time to get a replacement can be two months—if there's a spare one stored nearby. If a utility has to order a new one from the manufacturer, it could take six months to up to two years to deliver."

IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 06/2100Z
to 07/2100Z: Solar activity was low. Only low level C-flares were
observed from Regions 1263 (N17W55) and 1267 (S17W00). Region 1263
exhibited motion and growth within its central and trailing spots;
merging of trailing spots with the central spots produced an
additional delta configuration in the group.

IB. Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be at
moderate levels. M-flares are likely and there is a slight chance
for an X-flare and/or proton event with Region 1263 as the most
likely source.

IIA. Geophysical Activity Summary 06/2100Z to 07/2100Z:
The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled. The solar wind speed
increased to 600 km/s at the beginning of the period and has been
slowly decreasing since approximately 06/2218Z. The solar sector
(phi angle) remained generally positive suggesting the presence of a
coronal hole high speed stream. The period ended with solar wind
speed around 500 km/s.

IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is
expected to be quiet to unsettled on 08 August as the effects of the
high speed stream weaken. Mostly quiet conditions are expected on
09-10 August.

this is from the expected Coronal Hole Wind Stream flowing from coronal hole (CH) CH469 that was earth facing on Aug 4-5. We were expecting to see the winds from this Coronal Hole starting around Aug 7-8
