What is the snow in the pics after 9:00...Is that plasma spewed from the flare?

I think so, it's been pretty quiet since the X flare

So does anyone know is it going to miss us? oh PLEASE say yes lol!

I guess the flare caused Lasco to black out.... for 4 hours. If it really did last 4 hours, I wouldn't think that's very good, even if the CME is going to just clip us. Something doesn't feel right here

MAJOR SOLAR FLARE: This morning at 0805 UT, the magnetic canopy of sunspot 1263 erupted, producing a powerful X7-class solar flare: SDO movie. The blast caused a brief HF radio blackout on the daylit side of Earth. SOHO coronagraphs show a CME emerging from the blast site. At most, Earth would received a glancing blow from the flank of the cloud on or about August 11th; a complete miss is more likely, however. Stay tuned for updates.

It sure doesn't. I've been asking for a long time why we had these big earth facing sunspots with little activity, while the sunspots on the opposite side of the sun had a lot of activity.

It seems to me we have our answer and it's the location of Elenin. Now that it has come from behind the sun and in our view, we seem to be getting hit.

Elenin must have some major effect on the sun's magnetic fields.

All the evidence seems to point toward Elenin. We will surely see in these coming weeks

Makes me wonder if they knew the more Elinin came into view that it would trigger more intense activity hense all the warnings we were getting on Sunday............just sayin'!

can we put in perspective the efects of this high X ???

My opinion is its a precursor for whats coming around the corner... quicker and stronger.

I also believe that its the highly magnetic ort cloud (fluffy) that is the culprit. Effecting this solar cycle(at the wrong time) and Elenin .... the whole solar system.

Intensifying everything from Solar flares to Comets. Nothing can be taken for minor while immersed in the cloud. What i'm not sure about is the Brown Dwarf star.... where is it, what roll is it playing..

it is saying a CME did emerge, and we may receive a glancing blow from it. Still... yikes!

Is it normal to have so many solar flares right together? I count seven and that just seems like alot to me.

Anyone know if we have significant sun spots rotating our way?

I think everyone went away....

The X flare has come and gone. A flare and a CME are two different things. The affects of this Xflare took about 8 min. to reach Earth.

There was also a proton event with this flare so we are having a S1 solar storm.

the xray flux is rising right now
but it looks like its been a bit active today with C's since we had that X flare earlier
