SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)

You seem to have invested alot more of your energy than typical in this latest X. What is it that you are "feeling" that concerns you about this one over the previous ones? If the matter is that you have just had more time to comment and reasearch than typical that is understandable to.

Like always thanks.... also, Looking Through You, Gabe, El, IWTB, etc.... you guys are also awsome for your input.

if that X1.8 ray apparently missed, can it change the direction of the previous cme´s?

my daughter took a photo tonight of the sky outside out place
she got a photo of a Red Sprite!

Just thought of something. Foxnews.com ran a story this morning which had in it's title that we had 2 x flares. Now we get this second one tonight. Very odd

09/07/2011 ---- NOW 3 Flares heading us M5.3, X2.1 and X1.8
on upload yt^^ and a little surprise at the end ^^

well there is the fact that this was the 2nd X flare within 24hrs as well as the 2nd CME associated with the X flare
its important to get all info possible when we do have a confirmed 3 CMEs headed our way
we do a lot of chit chat on here on slow days, but when the sun wakes up with this kind of activity, everyone on this thread gets busy with whatever time they have and gathers all info we can find :) its awesome to this teamwork
tonight i was just watching a star trak marathon with netflix
seen them all before anyways so it was much more interesting with this 2nd X and associated cme ^^

I'm new to this forum but am glad to have found this place... Can someone give me a brief explanation to what these flares will mean for planet Earth or if they will even hit? Or are flares something that a lot of people talk about with no actual noticeable affects?

This X flare actually scrambled my DirectTV for a few minutes, that is what tipped me off to check my solar monitor and there it was "X Flare"

well, 3 CMEs from those 3 flares hehe ^^
and all will arrive at the same time as the coronal hole wind stream

Are you thinking auroras? Earthquakes? Carrington type event?

I apologize in advance about this hijack post, but I just came across this thread and it seems to coincide quite well chronologically with these CME's. I'm in Indiana, so this really got my attention. After connecting the dots, this situation just seems to be getting worse by the minute.

To Nin, Gab and ELQ. Do you have Faraday cages (cardboard box and aluminum foil is the best I can come up with) and if so at what point would you start packing your electronics up, and what would you pack up ???

I wanted to get back to you. I'm old enough to remember when the boxing day Tsunami came through....

I made a mistake. I thought I would not make a nuisance out of myself by calling authorities in the various countries and warning them that they must be immediately prepared for a major Tsunami after the major quake.....hours later 250,000 people perished....my mistake.

The countries around did not have enough experience....the hotels, the tourists, the residents.....

I think I could have saved lives because I was old enough to know about Tsunami behavior....even calling one hotel...my mistake.

Ninz, you're doing a pretty good job, you are aware of the ch, that will hit us just after the cme's have passed, you never know it might even mingle with an earthbound cme from 1289, That is another sunspot to watch closely ninz ;) it has been very active on the farside during the last week. There is another very interesting active region just beyond that. It could be a monster sized sunspot, the biggest of sc24 when it emerges over the limb sometime around 14th-15th September. ;)




To correct you on one point however.... the current location of sunspot 1283 is far from 'directly earth facing'. A recent previous poster hit the nail on the head, even posting a graph to make it easier to understand. The perfect sun-earth position for a cme is between 60 and 20 degrees east, that being the left hand side of the sun as we look at it. That is not to say that any cme activity west of 20E will always miss earth, but it does tend to get stripped of most of it's potential. Whilst 1283 is no doubt very pretty, the threat from a region in that position is less than the threat from 1289 in it's current position around 70E.

another thought....

don't worry about your electronics.... if we get hit by another carrington event, it won't matter because all the main grids...your neighborhood and city power sources... would be destroyed.. so your electronics would be useless.

Stock up water, water, and more water... unless you have easy access to clean river, lake, etc.

Propane tanks.... get lots of those filled up... outdoor grilling for awhile ......... and heat.

I have a small scooter inside a box i think i have made EMP proof.... and have stored gasoline for it.

I have lots of guns and ammo for hunting and self defense.

Worse place to be is a big city....

Best Faraday cage, grounded metal building. In your home a grounded metal trash can, will work a solar blanket over your electronics, with a allagator clip attached to a wire that leads to ground.
