Thanks, Oracle! It is somewhat similar to Sept2004 pulsation example. It was before the CME hit us so I was just wondering if it was the pre-storm shockwave.

Nice catch, Mahala. We'll have to keep an eye out. There was another CME that was thought to be NOT geo-effective, but I had a hunch we could get a glancing blow. It was a slow mover- about 24 hrs. after the first one. So the timing seems right.

Looks like it might be just a slightly hitting us or it is just the beginning.

Most places I checked seems to show storm winding down. Kp=1 Quiet. It was just Kp=2 a minute ago. I thinks its tailing off soon. [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

Yup looks like it. I'm not good at reading the graphs. Still figuring those out. Just was looking at the Pressure picture and saw it starting to get yellow. Slowly but surely I'll get to understanding things more. LOL..

I am going to leave this graph of the past 24 hrs Ao/Ae nT here for documentation since it will not show up on the archived movie from NICT. This one can be pieced together with the one I posted yesterday.

Looks like this sunspots slowly waking up but fortunately no stronger CME's for now, hope it stay like that because they are very powerful ..

# FAST WARNING 'PRESTO' MESSAGE from the SIDC (RWC-Belgium) #

Catania sunspot group 74 (NOAA AR 1296) has produced a C6.2 flare
peaking at 07:37 UT today. The flare region is currently close to the
central meridian. At the moment of writing, no SOHO/LASCO data is
available but from STEREO-A/COR2 data, we can confirm the eruption of an
Earth-directed CME with a speed around 400 km/s. Further analysis will
follow as more data becomes available.

"With plenty of active regions on the solar disk, we can expect more flaring activity at C-level, with a low chance of an M-flare. Especially Catania regions 72, 73 and 74 (respectively NOAA AR 1295, 1298 and 1296), which are close to the central meridian, are likely to produce more C-class flares. The largest flare observed this morning was a C6.2 flare, peaking at 07:37 UT. It originated from Catania region 75 (NOAA AR 1296). An associated radio burst was detected in Humain.

As reported, the C3.8 flare, peaking at 10:57 UT yesterday, was associated with a CME. This CME came into the SOHO/LASCO field of view at 12:42 UT and turned out to be not earth-directed. STEREO-a/COR2 images of this morning suggested an earth-directed CME around 6:54 UT. Its speed, estimated from the STEREO data, lies around 430 km/s. However, as new data from PROBA2/SWAP and SOHO/LASCO becomes available, this CME seems to originate from NOAA AR 1301 on the east limb. As a result, we do not expect this CME to reach Earth.

The solar wind has a moderate speed, currently around 440 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field has a total strength of ~ 6nT. Current geomagnetic conditions are quiet and we expect them to remain so in the coming days."

I mentioned this last week about how long these C-flares are lasting on the flux chart..I find it a little odd since all these sunspots have turned twoards earth the flux chart has been showing long drawn out waves...especially the 5 minute chart--usually it spikes up and shoots almost straight down..The last 4 or five flares have been like this...Can anybody explain why this would be the nature of these sunspots?

the radiation (waves) are of a different length

change of frequency (distance between waves)

energy = information

same cause (sun), different function (distance between waves)
= different effect to earth

I tried to track down more info on this. Seems even some PHD's are scratching their heads studying this. I found a few scientific papers which are mostly over my head LOL. However, it seems Long Duration Events are almost always associated with CMEs and filament de-stabilization. Some are producers of intense Gamma Rays. More info in these papers...
