Boceph User ID: 1936483 United States 09/25/2011 04:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nothing is this article even hints that laptops would be dead. Maybe if your on the ISS,LOL. Read it again. I said , as YOU stated, laptops useless because of all other broken comm. lines- not laptop itself fried, just the entire system laptops depend on. (After bat.run out)Same w/radio- may be able to still pick up something, but much less because of all the infrastructure that supports radio brodcast. When I said as above, I was referring to your statement above mine. my original question was not concerning communications ... obviously the radio yes.... laptop and pads, etc i would use to read the hundreds of survival pdfs i have saved to thumb drives |

LMFAO... yeah, not to offend anyone but i don't play video games.... have a 105 watt hour deep cell battery, control charger, and 350 watt inverter this set up is only for led lights, small tv, radio, laptop, ipad, and how about an electric shave !!! |

NiNzrez (OP) User ID: 1135433 United States 09/25/2011 05:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | a little off topic... but do you guys think a Quoting: Boceph carrington event would kill laptops and emergency radios, etc.. yes it would kill laptops and all things that are ran by electricity and thats on topic ^^ we talk about ALL things solar related in here I humbly disagree on the laptop question. I've seen no evidence for this. If this is true than no motor vehicles will start either. Your computer may not have any wireless or wired connections to outside, but I believe it would still work on battery power anyway. The effect of another Carrington Event would be similar to that of a global electromagnetic pulse (EMP). Anything electronic would be fried but fact of the matter is, it would all depend on the strength of the solar storm that hits, along with the condition of our magnetosphere when it hits so its very hard to tell the effects of any given solar storm The carrington event was so strong that the Telegraph machines in the offices caught on fire. thats a STRONG event! if we had the same strength of a storm today, if it was strong enough to catch telegraph machines on fire, i believe it would do the same to our handheld electronics of today but in the end, we are left with only what we may believe, that is, until it happens again then, and only then will we truly know the effects of such an event on todays society and electronics :) Here is a video where they talk about a recent NASA report about a modern day carrington [link to www.youtube.com] Join Me On The GLP SOLAR WATCH Thread Thread: SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017!
