Knowing that the soho lasso images have not been working for over a day now, is it possible they have been damaged and are not currently functional rather than a cover up? A second question. Just like we have buoys as an early warning detection system for tsunamis do we have anything sensors in space comparable to the buoy to let us know if trouble is heading our way? If not why not? I really appreciate everyone input in advance. I love this thread! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1297814 Germany 10/02/2011 10:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | okay some update: this morning a M3.9 solar flare took place peaking at 0050z from region 1305 [link to www.lmsal.com] The two largest groups saw region 1302 decrease in size slightly but is still a FKC, Beta Gamma Delta type group while region 1305 increased in size slightly to a DSO, Beta gamma type group. A new group rotated into view over the north-east limb yesterday. There is a group on the backside of the Sun which produced a large solar flare yesterday morning, this is still more than a week away before rotating into view. At least two coronal mass ejections appear to be Earthbound and are due late on the 2nd or the 3rd. :newsunspotsoctob: Image shows the collection of groups in the northern hemisphere Video from Kevin(Solarham) Several Coronal Mass Ejections are seen in this STEREO Behind COR2 movie. The first one was caused by a long duration M1.2 solar flare on Oct 1 around Sunspot 1305. The second was a farside event. The 3rd was during the early hours of Oct 2nd and resulted from an M3.9 Solar Flare around Sunspot 1305. Also notice the sundiving comet. [link to www.youtube.com] |

SDO: The Solar Dynamics Observatory is the first mission to be launched for NASA's Living With a Star (LWS) Program, a program designed to understand the causes of solar variability and its impacts on Earth. SDO is designed to help us understand the Sun's influence on Earth and Near-Earth space by studying the solar atmosphere on small scales of space and time and in many wavelengths simultaneously. Quoting: nasaSDO's goal is to understand, driving towards a predictive capability, the solar variations that influence life on Earth and humanity's technological systems by determining how the Sun's magnetic field is generated and structured how this stored magnetic energy is converted and released into the heliosphere and geospace in the form of solar wind, energetic particles, and variations in the solar irradiance. [link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov] Living With a Star Program Heliophysics is the study of the Sun and its interactions with Earth and the solar system. The Heliophysics science program consists of two strategic programs/mission lines: the Solar Terrestrial Probes and Living with a Star; one Principal Investigator- led competed line (the Explorers); and a set of Research programs including a fleet of operating missions known as the Heliophysics System Observatory. All play a part in the development of scientific understanding of the heliophysics system. Quoting: nasaLiving With a Star emphasizes the science necessary to understand those aspects of the Sun and space environment that most directly affect life and society. LWS missions target the linkages across the interconnected system with an ultimate goal of enabling a predictive understanding. The first LWS mission is the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), which was launched early in 2010. This mission observes how the Sun’s magnetic field is generated and structured and stored magnetic energy is converted and released into the heliosphere in the form of solar wind, energetic particles, and variations in the solar irradiance. The second LWS mission will be the Radiation Belt Storm Probes (RBSP). The twin RBSP spacecraft will determine how charged particles in space near the Earth are accelerated to hazardous energies that affect satellites, astronaut safety, and high-altitude aircraft. Concurrently with RBSP, the Balloon Array for Radiation-belt Relativistic Electron Losses (BARREL) will measure the high-energy particle precipitation from the radiation belts into our Earth’s atmosphere. RBSP will launch in 2012............cont> [link to lws.gsfc.nasa.gov] |

Nasa and soho obviously withholding images/data from us as they always do when something of importance is occuring. They may need to doctor images in the name of national (corporate) security/interest. Besides they wouldn't want to panic the masses if it was serious.....freeways must remain open so elite can make it to safety. |

February 10, 2010 Instruments scanning outer space for cataclysmic explosions called gamma-ray bursts are detecting intense flashes of gamma-ray energy right here in the friendly skies of Earth. These terrestrial gamma-ray flashes, or TGFs, blast through thunderstorms close to the altitude where commercial airliners fly. Quoting: nasaIn fact, they could be too close for comfort. In a recent study,* scientists estimated that airline passengers could be exposed to 400 chest X-rays worth of radiation by being near the origin of a single millisecond blast. Joe Dwyer of the Florida Institute of Technology took part in that research, which used observations from NASA's Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager, or RHESSI, to estimate the danger TGFs pose. ....................................................................cont GBM wasn't designed to look for TGFs, but GBM co-investigator Michael Briggs has greatly enhanced its sensitivity to them by writing new software. "TGFs have really been an afterthought for missions so far," says Dwyer. RHESSI, for example, points at the sun, but the RHESSI team figured out a way to measure TGFs by detecting gamma-rays coming in through the satellite's backside. "All these instruments have been pointing across the universe, while right over our heads these monsters are going off!" "Now the whole field of TGFs is on fire," says Fishman.
