I wonder why all of NOAA's data stopped working?

I haven't noticed any problems at NOAA but STEREO A is uncharacteristically 36 hours offline and SOHO is 10 hours behind (unfortunately typical). Most of the CME reports depend on these, so I guess we're all in the dark. Maybe all the heliophysics bigwigs are at the Moffett Feild conference discussing solar doom.

Good morning. Where'd everybody go? Did NIN and the gang head for the bunkers? LOL. Stereo A is still showing data from Oct. 15-I hope we haven't lost this invaluable satellite. Stereo B, however is goin' strong and seems to show a CME which may be earth-directed. Look at the 4 o'clock position on the stereo B movie and also the SOHO COR2 image. No alerts issued yet.

I was thinking the same thing. Where did everyone go, kind of lonely without the crew and pages of reading to catch up on. Lol. I lurk on several threads and it seems many regulars are not around. I hope they are not here for happy reasons, or that life is so great they have no time for GLP. I worry for Nin after her accident, sure hope she is well and making steady progress with her health.

It's been strangely quiet-considering the large number of spots, I think C7 is the biggest x-ray measurement in about a week. Lots of CME's, but this is the largest to head our way in at least a week. The background x-ray flux has been steadily rising for a couple of days now, so you may see some more fireworks soon. The last two C flares have been of a longer duration, we'll have to wait and see if more CME's are incoming.

totally agree but we are also influenced by the coronal hole

Next days will be very int and sun will lost her calmy behavior^^ with the new active spot coming from the north eastern limb..

Image shows huge activity at the north-east limb (upper left)

on top of those you mentioned, SDO only has around 40 images today, when there is usually around 85-90
and all this past week, has had a lot of issues with producing updated images
2 days, there was no images at all
very odd to see this from SDO

some very big sunspots earth facing right now, but so far they have remained pretty quiet

i am prompted to think elenin as in:
uncertainty (sunday) until observation was complete

I'm sure it is that things are a bit quiet right now
so now is resting time
that way we all have the needed energy when things really get popping
well, I'm hoping thats what it is for most anyways :)

i have been focusing on recovering
it's going really slow and i am becoming impatient
i don't much care for sitting to much and thats all i can do
i guess this is a big lesson in patience hehe

Don't be discouraged, healing does teach us patience and also gives us insights and new perspectives. You are a wise woman to acknowledge this. I hope you're up and about ASAP-but don't rush things too much. What's the current prognosis on your injuries, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm trying hard not to be ^^
nothing has changed as far as prognosis as of yet
they still say that with a lot of physical therapy i will be able to walk with a cane :/
guess thats better than not walking at all right
i go back to the Dr in 2 Thursdays for my 6 week check up
keeping my fingers crossed they have some good news for me :)
on a good note, being forced to sit, and with the sun sleeping, i decided to finally watch all of Prison Break. I have been wanting to do that for the last few years but never found time to sit long enough
just watched it from beginning to end and was SO mad at the ending!
someone should have warned me! haha

I just saw a nice little meteor zip past Jupiter-it was fast and bright (not as bright as Jupiter though).

We have two new numbered active regions near the northeast limb, #1323 & #1324. 1324 has been active for days behind the limb.

You may have seen this-SDO is undergoing re-callibration maneuvers this month-but they don't mention any reduction in data. It's a brief notice on the SDO blogsite.

Comet ELENIN, Rest In Peace. The verdict is in: alas, Elenin is no more. Comet c/2010 X1-Elenin has not been seen since mid-August when it was shown to be disintegrating from a solar blast. New photos show absolutely nothing at all where the comet was projected to be at its closest approach to Earth. Nada-Zilch-Nothin'. Maybe that meteor I saw was a grain of Elenin-dust, lpl. Hi Ninz - good to see you around. I too watched Prison Break. It was my form of a sleeping pill when I went to bed. Absolutely loved it and YES, didn't like the ending either but well worth the watch. Another show I watched was Damages with Glenn Close, lots of episodes and a good watch - highly recommend. Sending love & light for more healing.

Active region #1316 has a Tower-of-Babel-type structure protruding from the surface. May be some kind of magnetic whirlwind....very interesting.

New active region #1324 on the northeastern limb is bubbling with flares and is displaying a beautiful series of loops which are reminiscent of a blooming flower. Zoom in on this hi-res SDO image.

SOLAR DOOM UPDATE:I've been searching for news about this past weekend's NASA conference on "Space Weather Risks and Society". The press was invited but I haven't seen any reports yet. Here's the AGENDA and list of presenters for the two-day event. I notice the State Department was represented, so somebody's taking this shit seriously. Please post here if you see any reports on this meeting.
