Yes it can, phone and tv problems here in mid. mo. HAS ANYONE SEEN JUPITER TONIGHT, IT IS VIBRANT! Something is up with that planet

yeah i believe it is solar related
its been effecting comcast all over the area for the last 3hrs
same thing happened last time there was a Kp8 storm a few months back

moving into total alignment :)

I know you'd be the one to ask.

For awhile I was watching the activity myself, but my life got busy and I don't have as much time to spend on the computer.

I am aware of some of the effects of the sun and have been trying to educate my sons as well as friends and even strangers.

Most people don't seem to be interested or even believe what I have to say, but that's o.k.--that's their choice.

I mentioned to my sons tonight that the TV is probably down because of a solar flare and they just roll their eyes and say "okay, mom".

Oh well, I will try to make a point to get back to checking out your thread more often.

Missed the aurora, but I saw a nice meteor for my efforts.;)
I hope things pick up at least a little bit, not even a C-flare lately. Regions 11324 and 11325 seem to be dissolving, but 11330 (Beta-Gamma) looks promising. I'm intrigued by the new northern spot, now designated AR11332. As we all know, the sun is fickle and can flare-up without notice.

Thanks for the great reports/updates-I love it when folks suddenly notice the night skies around them (and the bright day star too). The meteor I just saw was going roughly East to West (it may have been a late Orionid). Just another "shooting star"-nothin' to alert the news media about, lol.

I finally saw them! The auroras were amazing. The weird thing is I checked spaceweather.com and the numbers seemed to show it was winding down. But then I went outside and the dim auroras became bright and the sky exploded in color. Here's some pictures I took:

Hey everybody!

Was just looking over some things and went to check out the GONG Farside Images...

Appears as though there is a lot of magnetic action going on back there.

I would like to know the science behind this. A little before 8:30 I checked and the bz was about 3 nT south and the density was under 0.5 protons. The auroras were visible earlier but kind of dim so I went outside to see if they had faded out. I was surprised I could still see them. On the eastern edge of the horizon, some red shot up. Then over half the sky lit up like you see in the pictures and lasted under 15 minutes. I saw similar pictures from New York at the same time.

How can the sky suddenly fill with auroras even though the storm was weak at the time according to the numbers? I hope I've explained myself well enough.

We still have at least a year and a half left on this cycle untill max; you can start to get a jist of why people in the know are jumpy.

I did, and we had clear skies..didn't see them :/..I have a feeling when we do we will probably be cooking neighbors doggies out back in the dirt:/? aha!!!!
The fact that the Aurora Borealis was seen as far south in latitude as has ben reported just goes to show that all of GOES, and POES data is just a big pile of SHIT!

I checked the Mag simulation, and was a little shocked. I've never seen this before.
