A mass ejection is seen on STEREO A at 10 o'clock position and STEREO B at 2 o'clock position- beginning at 18:00 UTC. SOHO stopped updating (naturally) so it's too early to know where it's headed exactly. [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] [link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov] |

Check out the filament at the upper right of frame- it looks like a river of blood! Quoting: Hugh M Eye [link to sdowww.lmsal.com] Cool stuff. I have been keeping an Eye on this filament with Stereo B Euvi 304 and 195. There were three other very large filaments that lifted south of this one this past week. One on the 24th, again on the 25th and then on the 27th. We have the return of Regions 1309, 1312, and 1313 coming around the "limb". On the above video you also see the large optical burst from that flare. Had this been rotated around in an Earth facing direction GOES would have registered this flare as a much much larger one than an M1.4. Same for the M1.1. It looks like the this month should be interesting. I found some eerie sounds from an X17 & an X28 flares recorded by Cassini (8.67 AU from the Sun) in 2003. Strangely, this very week is the 8th anniversary. Hugh M Eye User ID: 4381422 United States 10/31/2011 08:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The X-ray flux graph has remained above the C line for 12 solid hours now; and all but one flare has been from the eastern limb in the past 24 hours. [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] The last C 5.2 was from the southeast limb region. [link to www.lmsal.com] SOHO has been out Trick-or-treating, so 6-7 hours of crucial data is missing. Most CME alerts and models are based on SOHO Lasco data so we must wait 'til the gaps are filled in. If there was a repeat Carrington Event I have no faith that the data would be collected and warnings issued to be of any help in a timely manner. IMHO, we're screwed. Now THAT'S SCARY.
