68 minutes total ... I can't believe I sat and watched this whole thing. Now I need to clean my house !!

If someone could let me know if it was #1339, and if there will be an earth directed CME it would be very much appreciated.

I simply cannot interpret the data. Thank you hf

It was 1342....still somewhat earth facing...not sure I`m the best to answer your question on the duration..But normally long duration flares have some CME with them

Sunspot Update and some INFO Flare and new CME:

First some Info Sidc:

:m1.1flarenov9:

M1.1 flare peaking at 13:35 UT was observed in the Catania sunspot group 34 (NOAA AR 1342) today. It was accompanied by a type II radio burst observed by Humain. PROBA2/SWAP detected associated filament eruption and coronal dimmings indicating the eruption of a CME. No SOHO/LASCO data is available at the moment of writing to confirm if the resulting CME was a halo. However, SECCHI/COR2 coronagraphs onboard STEREO spacecraft detected a bright and fast (more than 1000 km/s) CME that may be directed at the Earth. A geomagnetic storm may result in 2-3 days if the CME will eventually arrive at the Earth.

Sunspots:

Region 1339 decayed in size from 1240 to 940 millionths and also is now a Beta-Gamma type group

Region 1338 also decayed and that group lost its Gamma section and is only a Beta type group

Three C class solar flares took place yesterday, two from region 1339 and the other from region 1141, this is the first C class flare from this region

Today so far a C 1.9(1335) and the lastest M1.1 (1343)

I just checked out the slideshow for today's CME and there is a wishbone thing of fire that shoots out from the sun. Is the the flare or part of the CME or something else?

M-class solar flare, possibly Earth-directed CME

M-class solar flare reaching M1.1 took place at 13:35 UTC Wednesday morning around Sunspot 1342 which is located in the northeast quadrant. It now looks like a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) resulted and a portion of it may be Earth Directed...
