I wonder how long that the remainder of the giant filament will hang on. The fat part seems to be looking right at Earth. Will it keep coming apart in chunks, or with a giant mega-blast, or will it remain relatively stable?

If we look at the field lines it appears like an enormous tunnel of magnetic ropes is holding it down. Any sudden flip or re-connection of magnetic fields could have a huge effect. Keep in mind the sun's equator rotates faster than the poles-this can cause the magnetic fields to stretch and snap into new configurations.
