Thanks Hugh,
The list's were generated directly from inspection of the GOES X-ray data, not drawn from ANY secondary source, therefor
I don't believe there are any copyright issues involved. Thanks for the link.

Yeesh!

Big Indeed, I wonder which of the two satellites this originated from, other than the date/time stamp there's
no other identifying data.

Oops, just looked at the URL, it's C2 actually. Odd
point of origin?

Elusive matter found to be abundant far above Earth
January 24, 2012

Cold plasma has been well-hidden. Space physicists have long lacked clues to how much of this electrically charged gas exists tens of thousands of miles above Earth and how the stuff may impact our planet's interaction with the sun. Now, a new method developed by Swedish researchers makes cold plasma measurable and reveals significantly more cold, charged ions in Earth's upper altitudes than previously imagined. ...................................

............While low-energy ions are not responsible for the damage caused by space weather, they do influence that weather. André compared the swaths of ions to, say, a low-pressure area in our familiar, down-to-Earth weather — as opposed to a harmful storm. It is a key player, even if it doesn’t cause the damage itself. "You may want to know where the low-pressure area is, to predict a storm,” André noted.

update:

Giant Veil of "Cold Plasma" Discovered High Above Earth

Clouds of charged particles stretch a quarter the way to the moon, experts say.

Earth generates cold plasma—slow-moving charged particles—at the edge of space, where sunlight strips electrons from gas atoms, leaving only their positively charged cores, or nuclei.

Researchers had suspected these hard-to-detect particles might influence incoming space weather, such as this week's solar flare and resulting geomagnetic storm.

André says it's now time to start updating space-weather models to take the extra cold plasma into account—at this point, for instance, nothing is known about how the plasma might affect solar storms.

This influence is "not a minor thing in space weather," André said. "It's an elephant in the room."

so first thoughts are we are discovering the answer to why sometimes we get earthquake/volcanic etc. activity in response to our suns radiated input and sometimes we do not

i imagine it depends on the amount of generated cold plasma in place and the velocity earth generates additional cold plasma in response to our suns input

a "slow burn" raising of radiation from our sun allows earth time to generate/compensate

a quick radiation out of nowhere can overwhelm the cold plasma zone prompting earthquake/volcanic discharges before the curtain is generated up to sufficient volume to "mellow" the incoming radiation

is how it feels

Re: SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)
last evening while out a few hours after dark i noticed the edge of the dark segment of our crescent moon was glowing fuzzily thus you could see it`s whole circular shape.
i have noticed this before but never as pronounced
an hour or so later upon going out again the effect was still there to the point where i asked 3 random people whilst i was out to look at the moon and ask did the see what i was seeing
in each case they looked and saw nothing until i told them what to look for
then they each expressed shock!
they did see what i was telling and each said they had never seen that effect before and all were disturbed, it seemed, by their discovery as in:
they did not like it

it struck me our moons atmosphere was glowing

NASA Mission to Study the Moon's Fragile Atmosphere

In 1968, on many occasions, NASA's Surveyor 7 moon lander photographed a strange "horizon glow" after dark. Researchers now believe the glow is sunlight scattered from electrically-charged moondust floating just above the lunar surface.

are u saying the *amount* of cool ions in our upper magnetosphere drives the degree of global geomagnetic interaction?

hmmm.

i think we are too 'hooked' on what we can see/count. i keep thinking all this detail is the result of slower (simpler) phenomenon: that the particles are being driven, not driving.

chicken/egg

its far more likely that variations in mag-fields (whether IMF or the geofield) is what drives these particles. It is not the relativistic protons in cyclotrons that drive the fields.

i dunno.

having way more data is good place to start tho.

so i have an idea:
i'm pretty sure i can design an affordable hardware + software geomagnetic monitoring station that would run on any windows based PC.

i thought it would be cool if we could set up our own geo-field monitoring network: a sort of DIY cyber community uploading real time data to 'My Solar Alerts' and building a larger picture of Gaia's field shenaniganns.

would anybody be interested in participating? i can design/build the hardware and make some open source software to drive the data gathering, but folks would have purchase and assemble their own devices and someone would have to manage the data flow into the website.

what do y'all think?

i suck at data literally, never went to school for real

Give us more details. I am a point in California on the "radiationnetwork.com" already. There software uploads the data that I get from a giger counter (serial to USB)and puts it on there web site as a point. I use a laptop 24/7 for that. One more monitor should not be a problem. What are you trying to put together?
