aether User ID: 1412926 United Kingdom 01/27/2012 09:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Elusive matter found to be abundant far above Earth Quoting: aether January 24, 2012 Cold plasma has been well-hidden. Space physicists have long lacked clues to how much of this electrically charged gas exists tens of thousands of miles above Earth and how the stuff may impact our planet's interaction with the sun. Now, a new method developed by Swedish researchers makes cold plasma measurable and reveals significantly more cold, charged ions in Earth's upper altitudes than previously imagined. ................................... Quoting: observation............While low-energy ions are not responsible for the damage caused by space weather, they do influence that weather. André compared the swaths of ions to, say, a low-pressure area in our familiar, down-to-Earth weather — as opposed to a harmful storm. It is a key player, even if it doesn’t cause the damage itself. "You may want to know where the low-pressure area is, to predict a storm,” André noted. [link to www.physorg.com] update: Giant Veil of "Cold Plasma" Discovered High Above Earth Clouds of charged particles stretch a quarter the way to the moon, experts say. Quoting: observationEarth generates cold plasma—slow-moving charged particles—at the edge of space, where sunlight strips electrons from gas atoms, leaving only their positively charged cores, or nuclei. Researchers had suspected these hard-to-detect particles might influence incoming space weather, such as this week's solar flare and resulting geomagnetic storm. André says it's now time to start updating space-weather models to take the extra cold plasma into account—at this point, for instance, nothing is known about how the plasma might affect solar storms. This influence is "not a minor thing in space weather," André said. "It's an elephant in the room." [link to news.nationalgeographic.com] Last Edited by aether on 01/27/2012 09:59 AM |

aether User ID: 1412926 United Kingdom 01/27/2012 10:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | last evening while out a few hours after dark i noticed the edge of the dark segment of our crescent moon was glowing fuzzily thus you could see it`s whole circular shape. Quoting: aether i have noticed this before but never as pronounced an hour or so later upon going out again the effect was still there to the point where i asked 3 random people whilst i was out to look at the moon and ask did the see what i was seeing in each case they looked and saw nothing until i told them what to look for then they each expressed shock! they did see what i was telling and each said they had never seen that effect before and all were disturbed, it seemed, by their discovery as in: they did not like it it struck me our moons atmosphere was glowing NASA Mission to Study the Moon's Fragile Atmosphere In 1968, on many occasions, NASA's Surveyor 7 moon lander photographed a strange "horizon glow" after dark. Researchers now believe the glow is sunlight scattered from electrically-charged moondust floating just above the lunar surface. It is not the relativistic protons in cyclotrons that drive the fields. i dunno. having way more data is good place to start tho. so i have an idea: i'm pretty sure i can design an affordable hardware + software geomagnetic monitoring station that would run on any windows based PC. i thought it would be cool if we could set up our own geo-field monitoring network: a sort of DIY cyber community uploading real time data to 'My Solar Alerts' and building a larger picture of Gaia's field shenaniganns. would anybody be interested in participating? i can design/build the hardware and make some open source software to drive the data gathering, but folks would have purchase and assemble their own devices and someone would have to manage the data flow into the website. what do y'all think? |

I am a point in California on the "radiationnetwork.com" already. There software uploads the data that I get from a giger counter (serial to USB)and puts it on there web site as a point. I use a laptop 24/7 for that. One more monitor should not be a problem. What are you trying to put together?
