Hugh M Eye User ID: 9692556 United States 01/27/2012 02:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I went looking back to see what triggered those October aurora in Alabama. There was no advance magnetic storm warnings and the CME was thought too far north to be geo-effective. CME was caused by a filament eruption on the northwest limb and we were told possibly a "glancing blow". The K-index rose to 6=Storm level and red auroras were seen very far south. Though largely un-anticipated, it was more geo-effective than the last two halo-CME storms which were directed straight at Earth. Not looking forward to another proton storm, before the effects of the last one completed. Hey Hugh, do you have bat crazy wind over there in Jersey? The wind on my side of the river is insanely wild. Goes from calm to out of control in moments! It's also 55 degrees. Crazy stuff. Hugh M Eye User ID: 9692556 United States 01/27/2012 03:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hi, Oracle. I must admit I haven't been following Earth weather as close as solar weather, lol. Yes, I was outside a bit ago as the sun broke through the gray-black stratus clouds and it was getting gusty. Methinks this normal wind behind a low pressure zone. What interested me was the geese were all flying North. An early Spring, perhaps. |

Possible 6+. Radio Direction Finder has signal coming in East of France from somewhere out in the Northern, Mid to Southern portions of the Pacific plate to Alaska, Canada and Chile. All who live anywhere in the vicinity of this line trajectory should be wary next 5 hours. Have escape plan ready and seek open terrain in the event of felt tremor. Secure most of your heavy objects and belongings around your home. Namaste, Hopefully I am wrong. Or it hits an unpopulated area. |

Not sure if that is a good idea to have an early spring. Guess we don't have much choice. Did you notice the recovery time going up on the absorption chart? Back up to 16 hours and 27 minutes for recovery. It was down to nothing before the x-class. [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] Kindness is in our power, even when fondness is not. --Samuel Johnson |

[link to mysolaralerts.blogspot.com] Having MS, I use a cane sometimes too. When I get down, I remind myself I could be in a wheelchair instead. I sure hope you continue to heal! I'll keep an eye out for that Harry potter cane. Keep in mind that you can easily find some really cool ones, like a black one with orange and yellow flames (might remind you of the fire in a solar flare). Also if you like it feminine you can find a pink one with leapord spots...lol. Check this out (Hugh too). Here's a little diddy for all those debunkers crying that we've had worse storms and that it's all about the class of the flare. This is an historical animation of the proton absorption from a major event list. The highest is an X-28 flare from November 4, 2003. Probably an extention of the Holloween storm that our storm from the long duration flare this week was supposed to rival. This is nothing compared to what we experienced this past week: [link to www.ngdc.noaa.gov] There is more to view here. Scroll to the bottom of the page: [link to www.ngdc.noaa.gov] Not one of these historical animations come close to the proton storm we had this week and all of these are considered "Major Events". learner User ID: 8531500 United States 01/27/2012 04:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | yes, though sunspot 1402 that produced this flare is not directly earth facing anymore, any Flare that registers on the Xray flux is headed our way and gets here in around 8 min [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] Approximately every eight minutes, the two fields briefly merge or "reconnect," forming a portal through which particles can flow. The portal takes the form of a magnetic cylinder about as wide as Earth. [link to science.nasa.gov] wow. interesting ""We used to think the connection was permanent and that solar wind could trickle into the near-Earth environment anytime the wind was active," says Sibeck. "We were wrong. The connections are not steady at all. They are often brief, bursty and very dynamic." " and "Why do the portals form every 8 minutes?" my question: how do they know? -possible mechanism for geofield/IMF interaction? |

I wonder if this was coincidence or is there an interconnectedness (either magnetic or shockwave induced). It would be an amazing event if it were felt on the opposite side of the disk.
