XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

This flare began rising 90 minutes ago! Fasten your seatbelts and wait for the CME.

Hello, i couldn't find the link I wanted right away so I'll paraphrase. A flare consists of X-rays, light (photons), and gamma rays, and it reaches Earth at light-speed (about 8 or 9 mins). Next accelerated charged particles (mostly protons) arrive near Earth in approx. 1 hour. A CME, or coronal mass ejection, is a cloud of plasma mass which takes a 2-4 days to arrive depending on its velocity. Flares only have a defined scale of C,M, or X. CMEs do not have any defined scale and each one has unique characteristics. I hope this helps.

I noticed that and posted back when this flare started. I called it "sympathetic flaring" of 1423 & 1428. It was very evident on the H-alpha movie loop.

Wow, you could already see the CME at 3:36. The flare had just hit the M-level then. So the whole time we were watching that graph crawl up from M1 to X1 the CME was already well on its way into space.

i wish IWTB was awake
he could get a movie together for all this activity that on the sun right now

kk so look here
[link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

-we of course have the X flare from sunspot region 1429 (top left big bright spot)
-there was a flare from region 1428 directly before the big X flare
- we have some sort of a channel eruption going on around the very center top section (no sunspot region)
- region 1423 in the very top right section is looping and flaring, with a possible cme
-region 1427 brightens up

X-ray flux is still above M1 level. I think I read somewhere that LDEs release more energy en toto than a short flare many times stronger. This is a very long X-ray event.

recent STEREO B & STEREO A images that there was indeed a CME associated with today's X1.1 solar flare. At this time, it would appear that at least part of the CME is Earth directed.

there is a lot of issues a CME can cause, causing issues with Satellites is just one of them
i will try to dig up some info on this for you in the morning
its hard to gove a ETA at this time, because were still waiting on the CME ejection speed
we need that to calculate how fast its moving to come up with arrival time
at 1st glance, i would put the estimated arrival time at earlie, to mid day on March 8th

Both 1423 & 1428 are very far away from 1429 (especially 1423, it's nearly on the side of the sun!). It seems improbable that the fields in the corona are interacting. We may have witnessed something very telling. Perhaps deep inside the sun's core, the source of these strong magnetic fields are somehow connected; even over these vast distances. Like sprouting flowers, they're part of the same stem and root system. Sometimes the line between metaphysics and plain-old-physics gets blurred.

oh i fully believe they are connected
tomasgod and i have talked about this many times, as well as watched multiple events BEFORE they took place, watching the magnetic connections, then the even would hit and we knew it was innerconnected
you can watch arks between areas, but we can also watch solar surface "lightning" go thousands of KM across the solar surface causing many small events
most of the small events are not talked about because they are not huge "wow" events
SDO is the best tool for watching this
and as the solar max comes at us, we will see this more and more i believe

im also believe this is something that happens each time solar max comes into view, but this is the 1st time we get to watch this, thanks to all the great guys over at SDO!
i can only count a few times that we did not have current SDO image to watch events
we cant say that about STEREO or SOHO
thats for sure :/

[link to mysolaralerts.blogspot.com]

the LDE flare is still in progress at this time
dropping slowly, the Xray flux is now at a C7.4
this LDE has been going on for around 3 1/2 hrs so far
there is a CME, it is at least partialy earth directed
ETA around early, mid day March 8th
more data needed to be sure on that though
kk, on that note, its 2am here and i need sleep
i will get on the sek im up to update with any new info that has come in while i was sleeping.
along with any new events that may have taken place
nite nite everyone and take care :)

That's the estimate for the first CME from the earlier M-flare. The X came about 15 hours later; so you can add 15 hrs. i guess. Personally, I think they may reassess this when the data and NASA's day shift comes in.

The new Cygnet model shows a complete miss of Earth. The earlier one showed a glancing blow from the 1st CME. Go figure.
