it was this busy this time last year
March 7th - 12th
We saw how that turned out
lets just hope for a better end result of this years activity

I haven't noticed any Earth-side for today yet. That huge tongue of plasma disappeared, but I guess it was sucked back in to be ejected at a later time. There is a hint of a small cme on STEREO A, but STEREO B and SOHO are not updating yet. We'll keep alert for one, that's for sure. The potential is there for a "perfect mega-storm" event.

Hi Nin, Ive been following your research for awhile, very impressive...I posted your blog info on my facebook today, would like to mention in my fallout forecasts as well, if OK with you...

Fallout forecast today (I am concerned how this activity may cause grid disruption and subsequent nuke plant issues)

none of the solar image sites are updates right now :/
well, SDO is
and this last M flare we can see (for lack of a better term) a lazer shot of plasma shooting out of 1429
if STEREO was updating, we would for sure see this on there

Re: SOLAR WATCH * Huge X8.2 Flare Sept. 10, 2017! (Updated Daily)
a lot of talk in here today about sunspot 1429
but i have not seen anyone mention that this large northern sunspot region have the same polarity characteristics as a southern located sunspot

for anyone who may not know
the polaritys reverse when the sun goes through a solar reversal, also known as the solar maximum
at that time, the leading polaritys of the sunspot regions switch places

we can see in this magnetogram image taken in 2002
[link to soi.stanford.edu]
that sunspots in the northern region are of a positive/negative structure
with the leading area (on the right) being positive (white), and on the left being the negative
(white on the right, black on the left)
in the southern sunspots, its the opposite
(black on right, white on the left)

when the sun went through a polar reversal in around 2003, that it does each 10-12 years, these polaritys reverse
this is why, we now see sunspots in the northern region with black on the right, white on the left
and the sunspots in the southern region white on the right, and black on the left
as we see here in a magnetogram image from SDO for March 7th 2011
the day this thread was made
[link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

now compair that magnetogram image to the latest magnetogram image for today
[link to sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

notice anything odd?
how about how... this huge sunspot 1429 has the same polarity (positive/negative - white on right, black on left) and the ones in the southern region do
1429 is the opposite of all other northern region sunspots

Ok, I'm fairly new with the terminology and actual science behind sun spots and flares. Any good sights were I can feed the brain and jump on board? Any help would be much appreciated.

If this SS doesn't pop off a X5+, I am going to be both surprised and shocked. Five M flares and 1 X in 24 hours? Pretty entertaining.

Hi NiNzrez, I think it would be beneficial if you grabbed those 3 images, put them in photoshop or something side by side, divide the sun up into its regions and highlight the + / - poles in each sunspot region just to give us all a visual representation. I see what your trying to say and it makes some sense but without a clear image of before and after I and im sure other people, am finding it a little hard to follow just by looking at white and black regions. Wouldn't each photo being shot at a different angle skew what we are looking at ?

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan
