EndOfAll User ID: 2563689 United States 03/06/2012 09:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Curious, maybe someone could answer this for me... How long does it take for a flare to reach earth? Cuz I've been watchin the magnetosphere for the last hour or so and its been gettin hit by the looks of it. Could the recent X5.4 flare cause this? Hugh M Eye User ID: 12066330 United States 03/06/2012 09:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: Hugh M Eye Absorption red, red, red. [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov] RED ALERT: INDONESIA, JAPAN, NEW ZEALAND, AUSTRALIIA Notice no one from there is here ??? You're right. It's a nice late-summer afternoon there now. Maybe some crispy-critters sunbathing on the beach. And out friend from India was 100% sure this SS was a dud. Haha. from hot sunny Queensland here, although we currently have flooding through 3 states ATM. Can someone explain the RED to me in laymans terms please? Just how much sunscreen should I put on the kids tomorrow? I think a "normal amount" of sunscreen is sufficient. Better yet, stay in the shade:). The x-rays are here now, but there may be a lot more this week. The red in the graph is the saturation of certain radio frequencies in the "D" layer of the ionosphere high above us. It's not indicative of anything dangerous to your biological functions. From wikipedia- Recombination is high in the D layer, the net ionization effect is low, but loss of wave energy is great due to frequent collisions of the electrons (about ten collisions every msec). As a result high-frequency (HF) radio waves are not reflected by the D layer but suffer loss of energy therein. This is the main reason for absorption of HF radio waves, particularly at 10 MHz and below, with progressively smaller absorption as the frequency gets higher. The absorption is small at night and greatest about midday. The layer reduces greatly after sunset; a small part remains due to galactic cosmic rays. A common example of the D layer in action is the disappearance of distant AM broadcast band stations in the daytime. [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

tomasgod1 User ID: 11714381 United States 03/06/2012 09:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey IWTB Looks like we got the crew hwere tonight..Cool Deal! Looking at our "foot point" location from today our point of magnetic connection to the Sun was very close to Sunspot Region 1429. See image here. [link to iswa.ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov:8080] 23:59:59¶meter=88&subParameter=2&window=-1 I was suprised to see that the DRAP is not more saturated then it is. I looked to see what the conectivity model showed for a SEP occurence and it is reading low. We will just have to keep an eye on things over the next few hours and see where the proton count goes. At any rate as Sunspot Region 1429 continues to flare at this rate we could be getting set up fpr another SEP event like we saw in January. _______ Blog [link to mysolaralerts.blogspot.com] YouTube Channel [link to www.youtube.com] "Give me Liberty, or give me Death!" The '11 X flare associated CME's never really hit us. All were glancing blows but this, I don't know... Good to see you back! “One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.” – Carl Sagan |
