I've been a lurker for the past week and all this is very exciting and scary. I have an odd question probably a silly one. I was just curious if solar flares can affect a person emotionally/mentally/physically?

I ask this because it's bizarre that the nausea, headaches, body aches, and extreme tiredness I've been experiencing seem to coincide with the flares. Maybe I'm just being ridiculous in thinking that, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

You guys are amazing at what you do! Keep it up :)

Not silly at all, and actually a common question.

Solar activity that is intense enough to send solar flares or Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) into the Earth's atmosphere will affect the Earth's electromagnetic energy field (EEF). The CMEs will also affect each person's EEF. The depth of the effect on each person can vary. However, first one must examine how CMEs affect the Earth's EEF.

#3) Bastille Day Event:

The Bastille Day event takes its name from the French national holiday since it occurred the same day on July 14, 2000. This was a major solar eruption that registered an X5 on the scale of solar flares.

The Bastille Day event caused some satellites to short-circuit and led to some radio blackouts. It remains one of the most highly observed solar storm events and was the most powerful flare since 1989.

thank you tom and god for answering my question :) that is pretty amazing things. I never thought that I would be sensitive to the sun and never even put any thought into it till I started following this thread.

The Bz reading is in the deep red (South). This isn't good for satellites, but it's good if you like intense aurora. Tonight should be a warm-up for the other CMEs a-comin'. Here's a simulation of the Earth's bow-shock and magnetopause (it's also based on the ACE data).

The filament eruption from the end of the 4th into the 5th UTC is arriving.

This geo-storm isn't from this flare, it's from the first or second CME from 3 or 4 days ago. This was expected to be a glancing blow, but it's looking like a pretty strong geo-magnetic disturbance. This could go on for 10-14 hours; maybe intermittently all week with this level of sunspot activity.
