On the backside of the main X flare (GOES X-ray flux) you can see a "hiccup" upwards so I guess they are calling that a 2nd X flare?

This is what ive been worried about....if we get a few X-Class flares pointed straight at us, all rapid fire, plus CME's out the wazoo...goodbye electricity grid...hello CHAOS!

Alot of the Solar research has examined the impacts of ONE large CME/SOlar Flare earth-directed and its potential effects on earth (power-grids etc). My fear has been multiple all at once...

Hopefully, im wrong and it wont happen, but this year looks like having a very good chance of producing another Carrington event or worse!

just wow this is a huge massive direct hit.

We got something like 10 M flares and 3 X flares yesterday in less than 24 hours? Imagine 10 X flares back to back in less than 24 hours. The electric grid would get so saturated with intense electromagnetic energy it would not be able to sustain and bye bye electricity.

This CME is from the 2 M1-flares early on the 6th. I posted this CME arrival info just before the X-flare started. Check yesterday's posts for movies, models, etc.. It was two merging CMEs 16-20 hours before the new one.

RWC BELGIUM Wed Mar 7 2012, 0614 UT

Two X-class flares in Catania sunspot group 65 (NOAA AR 1429) were detected by GOES today. The X5.4 flare peaking at 00:24 UT was located at N17E27. The X1.3 flare peaking at 01:14 UT (during the declining phase of the X5.4 flare) was located at N22E12. According to the SDO/AIA data, each flare was accompanied by coronal dimmings, an EIT wave and a post-eruption arcade, indicating the eruption of two CMEs. At least one of the CMEs was detected by SECCHI/COR2 coronagraph onboard STEREO B. At the moment of writing the SECCHI data is too fragmented and no SOHO/LASCO data is available, so the CME speed cannot be determined reliably. Both flares were accompanied by type II radio bursts. The SEP flux at energies above 10 MeV started to rise shortly before 02:00 UT and crossed the SEP event threshold shortly before 06:00 UT. The contemporary rise of the proton flux at energies above 50 and 100 MeV indicates that the protons are mostly accelerated at the CME-driven shock associated with the (either of) the two X-ray flares today. A contribution from a possible shock that was detected by ACE at 03:35 UT (most probably associated with the halo CME on March 4) and from the halo CME on March 5 is not excluded. The SEP event spectrum looks rather hard. No SOHO/CELIAS data is available at the moment to confirm the shock detection by ACE. The solar wind speed is currently around 420 km/s and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is around 18 nT, with the north-south Bz component negative during extended intervals. Disturbed geomagnetic conditions up to the minor storm level are expected.

The central portion of the group is the most magnetically complex with a strong east-west polarity inversion lines. Regions with polarity inversion lines that run east-west as opposed to a north-south inversion line in general produce more and larger solar flares

I have never seen GLP so torn over sundoom..mass hysteria..mass confusion..Mass deception ....LMAO...I`m sticking to this thread primarily...Crazy stuff..absorption map filling up and SOHO is still peppered..

Let's hope power grid isn't affected long term. Lots of powers plants to be concerned about if they did go down.

Think of transformers, the more electricity is pumped into them the louder they Hum and Resonate. See all that energy coming in at lower frequencies? That is a lot of low frequency resonance. On a planetary level that is big and the more comes in the more the planet resonates, something will give and pop a large quake.

That's why, as much as this thread should be pinned, I never do. Seems to keep most of the rif~raf out.

For me it will be difficult to don't happen some power outrages and blown transformers... i think that with much less our magnetosphere were breached and sun material come to ground level so...
