Your pets will be fine. These things have happened since the Earth was created. There's been some research to suggest an increase in heart attacks or strokes due to geomagnetic storms. The evidence is spotty and not a lot studies have been done on this (that I know of). Most of what you hear is hearsay. If you have a pacemaker or heart problems, what could you do anyway? The Moon is not a good place to hide...even less protection from radiation there. You may get a headache, but you'll be fine. Astronauts, on the other hand, are in deep doo-doo IMO.
